The Best Friend Bargain - Page 37

“No, I think we’re good. And… uh… I’ll get dressed.”

“Yeah.”

I turn the camera off. Remove it from the tripod. Move to the door.

I try to stay focused on my very simple task, but my eyes roam over Forest’s body.

He’s still hard.

There are more pressing things to consider, but at the moment, there’s only one thing in my head.

This voice groaning he’s still hard.

Chapter Twenty

Forest

Sure enough, Oliver’s sister Daisy is downstairs. With her blond hair and her cornflower blue eyes, she’s every bit as adorable as her name.

She’s pure California Babe. Not that she’s a babe just yet.

It’s not that she isn’t gorgeous. She is. But she’s so damn young. A kid who needs protecting.

Hell, she’s looking at Holden like he’s the guy who’s going to protect her.

Daisy turns to me as I step onto the main floor. “Forest, hey.” She smooths her peach dress. “You look good.”

“He still hard?” Holden asks.

Daisy blushes. “Sorry, he’s—”

“He’s my brother. I should be the one apologizing.”

Her nod is knowing. Her brother is… maybe her situation isn’t as bad as Mack’s. Oliver isn’t an alcoholic. Just a guy who likes to party.

But he’s gotten sloppy drunk enough times I’ve had to apologize for him.

She’s probably carrying a lot of weight.

And now Holden is fucking with her. Or trying to fuck her. One of the two.

I study my brother’s easy expression.

He looks at me curiously. “You already finished with Skye?” He shakes his head. “Shameful.”

Daisy stifles a laugh. “I’m sure Forest… gets the job done.”

“I’m not.” Holden holds up a bottle of vodka you want some?

I nod sure.

He fills a cup with ice. Pours. “Maybe I was wrong about Skye. Maybe she is the generous type. Getting on her knees, unzipping your jeans, begging to suck your cock.”

Daisy’s eyes go wide. Poor girl has no idea what she’s getting into hanging out with Holden.

Someone needs to convince her it’s a bad idea. But a warning from me isn’t going to help. I’m older than her brother. Practically an older brother.

Teenagers don’t listen to adults.

If I ask her to stay away, she’ll run right to him.

If I ask Holden—

Maybe there’s some reverse psychology I can use here.

“How does she beg? Is it more of a high-pitched whine? Or more low and needy?” Holden asks.

My balls tighten at the thought of Skye’s groan. Not where my head needs to go.

“Fuck, what about that lipstick she wears? Does it stay on her—”

“Shut the fuck up.” I can’t think about her lips. About how good she tastes. About how much my body is humming.

I want to kiss her again.

I need to kiss her again.

I need to feel her skin against mine.

Not just because I want to fuck her. Because I want more. I want everything.

Only I’m not capable of giving her everything.

He smiles, victorious. “Damn, you’re on edge for a guy who just came.”

Daisy stares at him with equal parts horror and interest. Oh my God, how can he say that? It’s so dirty. And so hot.

I’ve seen this happen before. Way too many times. Holden enjoys corrupting the innocent.

Or so he claims.

Honestly, it’s hard to tell when my brother means… anything.

“It was all acting,” I say.

“You were acting like you had a boner? Uh-huh.” He nods sure, sure.

“It happens.” Daisy’s voice is shy. “In my drama class, we were doing a kissing scene. And my acting partner… He… ahem.” Her blush deepens. “It was awkward, but I managed to stay in character.”

“You’re as fast as a high school boy. That’s impressive.” Holden winks at me.

Daisy frowns. “I just mean… were you guys really taking pictures in lingerie?”

“Yeah,” I say.

“For…” She looks to Holden. “I’m sure what your brother told me is wrong.”

“She runs a fashion blog,” I say. “The company is paying her to post their stuff.”

“They give her the lingerie? And pay her to post it?” she asks.

“Yeah,” I say.

Her eyes go wide. “That’s awesome.” She plays with the edge of her cardigan. “And you’re helping her? What a good friend.”

Holden hands over my drink.

I take a greedy sip. Vodka on ice. It’s cheap enough it’s shit, but not so cheap it burns. “Thanks.”

“Mhmm.” He hooks his arm around Daisy. “What are you drinking, gorgeous?”

She lets out a giggle. “If Oliver sees—”

“Tell him it’s soda.” He motions to the bottle of diet coke on the counter.

She nods obviously. ” I don’t really like the taste.” Her eyes fix on Holden’s.

“I have just the thing.” He smiles, brings her to the bar, fixes her a rum and diet.

She takes a tiny sip. “Huh.” Then a bigger one. “That’s… really good.”

“Don’t let her get drunk,” I say.

She fights a frown. Stops herself from saying something about how she’s not a kid.

I’m not going to argue. I remember being that age. Thinking I understood the world.

Sure, I grew up fast. But I had a hell of a lot to learn too.
