Once more, she surprised me with her sharp business mind.
“Couldn’t agree more. I’m going to write a proposal. The last thing we need is them seeing another investor and us losing our shot. These guys are the real deal.” I pushed up out of my chair and indulged in a deep stretch that sent rippling cracks up my spine. “It’s going to take me a few hours. You can go ahead and head home. I’ll clean the rest of this up.”
Gabi tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I wouldn’t mind staying to help out. I’d like to learn how to write a proposal, if you’re willing to teach me. Besides, maybe I can add some flair. Those guys are kids. I think they’d appreciate a bit of lighthearted humor in a proposal, so they know they’re working with someone who’s cutting edge.”
I arched an eyebrow. “Are you telling me I’m not cutting edge?”
She giggled. God, it was such an adorable sound. “I never said that.”
“You implied it.”
“You can be severe, that’s all. And I think they need something a bit less rigid.”
She wasn’t wrong.
“Very well, let’s clean up this mess and we’ll get to work in my office. Oh, and feel free to keep those flowers on your desk.”
Gabi picked up the vase and smelled them. Her eyes closed momentarily. “That’s okay. I don’t really have a desk. Maybe I’ll put them on Donna’s.”
Right. She didn’t have a desk. She’d operated out of reception, but I’d hired a replacement who started next week, and I hadn’t assigned her a desk down on the deck. My bad.
“Take the office next door,” I said.
Gabi blinked. “Are you serious?”
“Why not? You’ll be closer to me, which will make things easier, and if I ever piss you off again, you’ll have a door you can close and lock to subtly tell me to fuck off.”
Gabi threw her head back and laughed, and I couldn’t help but grin as I basked in the sound. This was a much better way to spend a night late at work than working tediously alone or barking orders at her. It felt like we were almost becoming friends.
How long had it been since I made a new friend?
