Balanced and Tied (Marshals 5) - Page 77

“And we aren’t sure that Senan was cheating on Lincoln, but it’s not important now anyway,” I reminded her. “Showing those pictures to Lincoln would just make him feel like shit, so you won’t, and that’ll be the end of it.”

“Yeah. Right. I’ll just delete them and it’ll be like it never happened.”

“Exactly,” I agreed but wondered suddenly why I hadn’t thought about those photos or saying anything about them. Senan had clearly been arguing with that man. I should have mentioned that to the police. “That’s weird.”

“What is?”

“I just—it never crossed my mind to tell the police about that altercation or the fact that you had pictures of that guy. I’m trying to figure out where my head was.”

“Well, you were in the room when Senan died, so maybe give yourself a break.”

That was true.

“And it was Senan, so once we were done talking about it that day, why would it have come up again?”

“Yes, but he was killed,” I reminded her.

“Sure, but like we just agreed, the pictures were taken specifically to show Lincoln. There’s no point now.”

“True. But it was still strange, right? I feel like it should have crossed my mind when he was shot.”

“We were both thinking it was about cheating, nothing else,” she said with a shrug.

“Yeah.”

“It’s funny though. That wasn’t the first time I saw Senan with that man. That’s how I knew to snap the pics.”

“You saw him before?”

She nodded. “Last week he was lurking around the front of our building, waiting for Senan. He was out there two different times.”

“Which is why you thought Senan was seeing him.”

“Yeah. Plus he was hot.”

I lifted my Prada sunglasses and put them on top of my head so I could see her face. “Did you tell the police?”

“I tried to.”

“Tried to?”

“I mean, I did because I thought maybe a lover’s triangle was important, but they didn’t seem to think so,” she explained. “They made me feel stupid for bringing up something that couldn’t be substantiated. Like I was trying to smear Senan’s good name.”

“As though he had a good name,” I said before I could stop myself.

“Right?”

I was quiet a moment. “You know, any second now, I’m going to stop having bad thoughts about him.”

She sighed deeply. “Well, when that happens, let me know. Maybe I’ll be next.”

“Okay,” I said, taking a breath. “So what happened when you told the police about Senan and that guy?”

“They just—they didn’t listen to me,” she stated. “Not really. I was treated like a hysterical woman, and I can assure you, I have never been hysterical in my life.”

I had to agree. The woman was a rock under pressure. “You should try and tell them again,” I suggested. “I think every angle should be checked out.”

“What if they blow me off a second time?”
