Surrendering Series Box Set - Page 340

“Give me a hint about the honeymoon and I will.” Fair was fair. I looked up and he was scowling.

“I don’t like that.” I laughed.

“Too bad, Mr. Blythe.” He held the door of the sandwich shop open for me and I grabbed a two-person table over in the corner.

“Eggplant today?” he asked as I took off my jacket and set my bag down.

“Yup,” I said and he went to order for us. I let myself watch him as he interacted with the people who worked there, laughing and smiling. I never thought it was possible, but the longer we were together, the more my love for him seemed to grow. Like blowing up a balloon. You think it can’t get any bigger and then you exhale another breath and it swells. It also didn’t hurt that he was just so damn sexy. Sometimes I couldn’t decide if I liked him more in a suit, or naked.

He came back to our table with our sandwiches and drinks on a tray.

“Were you checking me out, Sunshine?” I pretended to gasp, as if he’d said something shocking.

“I would never! Ogle my fiancé? How dare you.”

“Oh, I dare. Damn, I forgot the napkins.” Turning around, he wiggled his ass just a little and then slowly sauntered to the condiment station where they had the extra napkins.

Je-sus Christ. My fiancé was hotter than hell.

“You’re evil,” I said when he set the stack of napkins down.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said as he picked up half of his grilled chicken sandwich.

“Be careful. You don’t want to piss me off or else I might not marry you.” I lifted one eyebrow over the rim of my half-sandwich.

His blue-grey eyes narrowed to slits.

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“I might,” I said nonchalantly.

Lucah looked around and then leaned in.

“You do that and I’ll take you to a hotel, lock you in and make you remember that you’re mine.” His eyes were liquid blue fire that sent a shiver of lust went down my spine. With only a few words, he could ignite every desire I possessed. Like he was designed to turn me on.

“Maybe that’s what I want,” I said, also leaning in. I felt my cheeks flushing, and I was definitely warm in other places as well. Going back to work later was going to suck.

I wanted him all the time. I needed him all the damn time. It was a sickness, really. One I hoped I never found a cure for.

“Maybe I will,” he said, slowly sticking his tongue out at me. I couldn’t see his clear tongue bar when he was talking, but just knowing it was there was enough. Mmmm…

“You’re a wicked, wicked man, Lucah Blythe,” I said, taking a bite out of my sandwich. It was a good sandwich, but I’d rather take a bite out of my fiancé. I couldn’t get over calling him that. I’d had to curb myself from saying it out loud, or else I’d sound like that annoying woman from the Seinfeld episode with the awful party. And then Sloane would quote it and say, “Maybe the dingo ate your baby,” and I’d roll my eyes and she’d laugh at my expense.

“You bring out the wicked in me,” he said, shrugging. I shook my head at him and went back to my sandwich so I didn’t spontaneously combust with lust. Combust with lust. I was a poet and I didn’t even know it.

God, I was mentally babbling.

Love made you mentally babble about your fiancé.

“Walter seemed good yesterday,” Lucah said as we took the long way back to the office. The super long way, since we were walking in the opposite direction so we could swing down a side street and then back.

“Yeah, I think he’s taking Mom and me seriously now. I’m still worried though.” Lucah kissed my temple. I’d been worried about my dad for a while. If he came to me tomorrow and said he was retiring, it would be a huge weight off my shoulders.

“I know you are, but you can’t make him do what you want him to do.”

“Why not?” He laughed and pulled me beside a shop so he could kiss the daylights out of me.

“You’re my favoritest of favorite things,” he said, his lips a little red from the impromptu makeout.
