Hidden Skeletons 2 (Dark Wagers) - Page 5

I honestly wasn’t sure. But it was wild and sexy as hell, wasn’t it? The fact that it was so risky only made it all the more thrilling. I didn’t want to end up in trouble, but I knew I wanted another secret visit from Brandon and his thick, throbbing erection like that again.

I guess I wasn’t ready to let go of the professor just yet.

BRANDON

“I don’t know about you, Professor Wilson, but I have some very talented students in my classes this year. I’m very excited to see where this year goes.”

“Hmm.”

I wasn’t listening to Miss Megan Aris, but that didn’t seem to be stopping her. She seemed to have this insistence on talking to me whenever I was around, even though I hadn’t given her any impression that I wanted to talk to her.

“What about you? Any students you like?”

I couldn’t even recall any of the other names of the students in my class. I had my blinkers on and there was only one person I cared about. But I was trying my hardest not to speak too much about Christine because I didn’t want people to know what was going on.

She was my delicious little secret, and that was how I wanted it to stay.

“I don’t know, they all seem okay,” I replied, non-committal.

“None that stand out?” she persisted. “That’s a shame. Maybe it’s because you haven’t been here for very long yet. I’m sure you’ll work things out. Speaking of which, I don’t know if you’re just new to NYU, or new to the city, but if you need a tour guide, I can show you around. I was actually thinking that it might be cool to go out for a drink. One-on-one. Get to know each other better. You’re a bit of an enigma, Brandon…”

Her words trailed off as she realized that I was barely listening to her. My eyes had drifted out the window as she droned on in her terribly boring way, and I spotted a familiar shock of ashy blonde hair which immediately had my heart pounding in my throat.

It was her, Christine. Just outside in the courtyard talking to a group of people I didn’t recognize. Perhaps they were in my class, I wasn’t sure, but something about the scene felt off to me. I didn’t like it one bit.

I cricked my neck uncomfortably as I rose up from my chair to see better.

“Are you okay, Brandon? You’ve gone really pale.”

“Huh?” I barely even bothered to look Megan’s way.

“Are you feeling sick or something? I could get the nurse?”

I pressed my palm to the window, wanting her to sense me. But she couldn’t. She was too busy tossing her head back and laughing at something someone else said.

No, not just someone else. A guy.

My chest twisted up in knots, my hands curled into fists. Didn’t that asshole know that she belonged to me? I’d marked my territory before the semester even started. There was no way in hell I would let him take her from me now.

Christine was mine, and I needed to remind her of that.

“Where are you going?” Megan yelled after me as I stormed out of the room. “Brandon?”

But I couldn’t hear her. The red mist of rage had descended over my eyes, and the only way I could stop my vision from clouding was to rescue her from them. They were no good for her; Christine would soon see that. She needed to be focused on me, because I cared.

“Professor Wilson?”

Another person wanting my attention, this time definitely a student, but I wasn’t going to give it. My one-track mind made it impossible for me to see anyone else but her.

It was almost as if Christine and I were the only people on the planet.

The closer I got to her, the more I steamed up. She hadn’t sensed me. Why didn’t she know I was coming? I had more of a connection with her than any of these assholes.

“Christine Ashford.”

She jumped as the words flew out of my mouth like accusation bullets.
