Much Ado About Dukes - Page 73

Do not hold back. It seemed her lifelong maxim.

And so he followed her words and thrust deeper into her body.

The perfection of her was too much. He’d never expected to feel…so much. So alive. So like he was going to rattle apart in her arms.

She embraced him, and he continued to thrust against her, building a rhythm, arching his hips to caress her most sensitive spot, and she cried out with pleasure.

Her face was a mask of bliss.

God, how he loved her face and seeing pleasure upon it.

He rocked his body against hers, building her need again.

He did not know if he could hold, for his own body was tightening.

And just as he was certain he could not wait, she tightened around him. And the way her muscles embraced him, he could not hold back.

As pleasure crashed down upon him, he called out her name.

Again and again that pleasure crashed upon him.

Until finally, Will collapsed against her, careful not to crush her. Breath ragged, he tucked her beside him.

He stared up at the ceiling and flung his arm above his head.

What had just happened to him?

She placed her hand over his heart, then pressed a soft kiss to his skin. “That is what it is all about.”

“Yes,” he replied. But he knew that until this moment, until the power of the pleasure he had felt with Beatrice, that he hadn’t truly understood what it was all about until just now.

And that was alarming indeed.

Chapter Nineteen

Dawn light spilled over the enormous, ancient bed, and Beatrice stretched, feeling positively delightful.

She felt languid, pliant as she smiled to herself.

The night had been delicious, full of shocking wonders. It had proved far better than she ever could have imagined. In fact, she did not think she could have imagined at all what had occurred between herself and her husband.

Husband.

Although she would not use the word as most ladies did, for she understood that their relationship was not typical. It was still quite a realization that her status in the world was very different in the light of this day than the previous one.

Beatrice let her hand slide over the cool linen, searching for his hard body.

Quickly, she realized that she was alone in bed.

She blinked in surprise and stretched again, allowing herself to take in the canopied bed. Its green silk hanging shone verdant in the morning light.

Biting her lower lip, she felt a wave of excitement crashing over her.

A duchess.

With ten thousand a year to do whatever she pleased. And a duke to lend his power to whatever cause she chose. How many could say such a thing? Few.

Birdsong greeted her as she pushed herself up onto one hand and contemplated the vast, empty chamber.
