Wed to the Mob - Page 2

“I have been with you for the past few years and I’ve never complained. I get your dry cleaning, I run documents to your house late at night, I juggle your busy schedule, and I never even blink.” I frowned. “If you’re not going to help me out, then I’m quitting.”

Piero blinked at me. I have to admit, I loved the stunned look in his bright eyes. He leaned back in his seat and ran a hand over his chin.

“You’re not going to quit.”

I raised a brow. “Are you sure about that?”

Piero chuckled and leaned forward again. “Let’s not do this, Abby. We have a long work day ahead of us, and I don’t want to argue.”

I nodded softly and straightened up. Reaching into my bag, I tugged out my security badge and slapped it down on his desk. Our eyes met before I turned on my heels and stormed out of his office.

Behind me I could hear him calling my name. I didn’t stop. Instead I left and only stopped when I reached the sidewalk. I stared down the block and frowned.

Did I really just do that?

My breath caught in my throat. Shit, it was just like me to lose my temper and do something crazy. Things were bad enough, but quitting my job? That wasn’t going to make anything better. I wanted to turn and march back to his office, but my pride wouldn’t let me do it. Instead, I turned and started walking. I wasn’t even sure where I was going, I just knew I needed to get away from the building.

The more I walked, the more my heart pounded in my chest. If I was broke before, I was going to be completely desolate now. I felt fresh tears prick at the corner of my eyes. Piero could be a real prick when he wanted to be. I tightened my grip on my bag and walked faster.

Why did someone so hot have to be so damn cold?
