Unbroken 2 - Page 157

Nobody but George and Leo knew.

Leo…

Fucking Leo when he used to come around…

He was going to kill that man. Just for the fun of it.

“I’m gonna make pancakes,” Skye declared, turning her eyes to look at him. “Want some?”

“Yeah.” She walked over to him and shoved a bouquet of dandelions into his chest. He grabbed them with one hand. “The fuck I need this for?”

“You’re like a dandelion, too,” she said. “You can’t kill a dandelion. Fuckers thrive in whatever condition.” Then she paused, licking her lips in thought before saying quietly, “Thanks for saving me.”

“You’re paying it off with your food—”

“I’m not talking about what happened back there,” she cut in, gesturing to the cabin. “I’m talking about in there. I could have lost myself…Thank you.”

She didn’t wait for his response as she went back inside.

Miles stared down at the dandelions in his hand, thinking of her words, of the soft look in her eyes—the softest look she’d given him yet.

He wondered for a brief moment if he should let her know why she was here.

If he should inform her of Hunter’s betrayal. Of his intentions to have her. Tokeepher. To no longer share her. To make her his in every sense of the word. To let her know that regardless of what happened back there, in that town, to that clubhouse, this was Hunter’s ultimate move, and Miles was set on following that command.

He stared at the door for a few beats, clenching his teeth as he pondered the morality of this.

Then he crushed the dandelions in the palm of his hand and followed her in.
