Unbroken 2 - Page 115

“Don’t expect that to happen again,” Leo spoke quietly behind me. “That was a one-off, Hunt. You never extended me that consideration.”

“Uh-huh,” was Hunter’s flat response.

“You can’t keep moving the goalpost. You’re playing dirty.”

“You don’t know what it’s like without her.”

“I was without her for six months—”

“After you have her, I mean,” Hunter retorted, icily.

I looked down, pretending to kick at the spot beneath my toe. They didn’t think I could hear them, but the wind carried their words to me, quiet but clear.

Leo sighed, considering his words before he answered, “I get it.”

“You don’t.”

“I don’t,” Leo agreed, “but I get it, too.”

“Yeah.”

“Did you come to the fair with this in mind?”

“Yeah.”

“So you knew this was going to happen.”

“I was hoping to fuck her—”

“You lured her on purpose, didn’t you?”

“Yeah.”

“Fuck you, Hunter,” Leo bristled. “You just can’t fucking help yourself, you selfish little shit.”

“Do you blame me?”

Fuming, Leo admitted, “No, but I resisted, man. I fucking held back every single time I wanted to have her.”

“Good for you, Leo.”

I resisted shaking my head. Hunter could be so difficult when he wanted to be.

“When it’s your turn to have her, will you be extending me this reprieve?” Leo asked next.

“No,” Hunter returned.

“No?”

“No.”

“You fuck.”

“Yeah.”

I glimpsed at them. Leo was turned to him now, chest heaving from rage as he angrily said, “I hate when you take advantage of my goodwill.”

Hunter’s lips were spread into a cold smile as he puffed on his smoke. “Someone has to be the gentleman, Leo.”
