Unbroken 2 - Page 92

His eyes met mine. “I’m ready to have you.”

I slid my hands up his thighs, feeling him go still as I roamed his torso. “Then why are you so guarded?”

“I’m not trying to be,” he whispered. “I’m giving you time…”

“Time to what?”

“Get settled in.” He paused, blinking quickly. “Or run back.”

My heart worked overtime. “Am I running, Leo?”

“Not yet.”

I swallowed hard. “Leo Itani, I am yours these next six months.”

He stared at me intently, his focus drawn back to my mouth. “And I am yours, Skye.”

I felt it deeply. Leo was mine.

It ached so deeply to be away from Hunter, but staring into Leo’s eyes was a like a cool balm to that pain. I felt Leo’s pull. Felt that tether between us form again, and suddenly I didn’t want to be anywhere else but here, in his quiet kitchen, staring into his guarded blue eyes. Suddenly, it was like I’d never been gone.

Was this how it might be like then?

Would returning to Hunter feel like I’d never left?

Would they ever stop looking at me like I was the very air they breathed?

I simply stood before Leo, and his jaw locked, like I was physically hurting him. But I knew he was just holding himself back, giving me the power. I drew closer, making the first move because he needed me to in that moment. “So then kiss me.”

“Is that what you want?” he asked.

I smiled. “I want to taste my broody gentleman.”

He studied me, like he needed to be sure I wanted it. Crazy man, of course I did. Then he dropped his head down to me, lightly brushing his mouth against mine. Heat flooded into me as his hands settled around my hips, tugging at me to come closer. Then I was in between his thighs, my palms flat against his chest as he slowly worked my mouth, exploring me.

I don’t know when it happened, or what sparked it—

A searing pain ripped through my chest. I gasped as sudden tears flooded my eyes. I broke from the kiss, sobbing so loud my body shook.

“I don’t know what’s wrong…” I said, panicked. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry—”

Leo’s arms went around me, holding me to him as I buried my face in his chest and cried. I cried so hard, I was going to vomit.

What the hell was wrong with me?

Where did that come from?

I didn’t know.

All I knew was that I was hurting everywhere, but I was happy too. Which was so fucked. It was the most bizarre sensation, and I kept apologizing until the words sounded like gibberish on my tongue.

Leo picked me up and settled me into his lap. He held me tightly as I burst open in his arms.

The tears didn’t stop.
