Unbroken 2 - Page 69

“You don’t know us,” I stressed.

He looked about ready to strangle me. “You’re just a little fucking girl, aren’t you? Can’t fucking choose so you’re stringing these cocks along—”

“Shut up!” I cut in, feeling my fingers tremble with fury.

He smirked, delighted by my reaction. “Three isn’t a number that works, girl. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too.”

I could have backed down, especially knowing that everyone was probably listening. But I couldn’t help but icily say, “Coming from the biggest man whore of the club! You don’t even know what it’s like to have just one pussy, do you?”

Voices dropped around us, curses sputtered, shocked glances exchanged.

Miles laughed before grabbing at his cock through his jeans, fisting it in my direction. “Fuck, I do love a good fuck, and there’ll be no one pussy to tie me down—”

“Pig!” I hissed.

“Coming from you, that’s rich.”

“At least I love them.”

“Yeah, well, I don’t do love, little girl—”

“I am not a little girl!”

“Then quite acting like one.”

Adrenaline fired through me as I stomped toward him, just about ready to scream. Jesse cut straight into my line of sight, settling a hand on my arm. “Easy, Skye,” he whispered down at me, steering me away. My heart was in my ears as I let him take me to the back of the bar. “You know he’s just trying to get a reaction out of you,” Jesse told me, gently. “He lives for that shit—”

“I hate him,” I seethed. “I fucking hate him!”

Oh, God, I wasn’t sure I ever hated someone more than him.

“He can be a handful,” he agreed.

Except he was only a “handful” to me.

“Take a breather,” Jesse continued, stroking my arm, his blue eyes tenderly on mine. “Come back out when you’re okay and ignore him.”

“I can’t let him win—”

“This isn’t about winning,” Jesse replied with a frown. “This is about keeping the fucking peace for Hunter. If he knows you’ve just had a spat with Miles, what do you think he’s going to do? You think Miles will let him manhandle him like Faden just did?”

I went quiet, staring down at my feet now.

Jesse was right. I didn’t want to create drama. Especially knowing that Miles was technically Hunter’s superior on the Road.

I should have just let it be.

Letting go of my arm, he repeated, “Take it easy.”

I forced a nod in response, prompting him to leave me alone.

I didn’t take it easy. I couldn’t. My body was jittery from that confrontation. I felt frustrated and angry. My cheeks were so flushed that when I pressed them with my hand, I was startled to find them wet too.

He had made me cry angry tears.

I wondered how many in the bar had noticed.

Rage zipped down my spine. I decided I’d had enough for the night. Everyone had been served, it was getting late, and I had spent every night after closing cleaning up while Kara and the rest of the staff took it easy.

Tonight, I wanted to take time out for me.

I rushed out of there, not bothering to look back once as I stepped out of the pub and into the cold air.
