Hunter was being crazy and possessive, and I didn’t know how to deal with him when he was like this. It had been a week since my encounter with Leo, and while Hunter had left for runs with Miles, he was always back in the evenings to watch me finish out my shift. Hunter wasn’t the controlling type. So, he didn’t demand my presence or tell me what to do, and he wasn’t jealous if I served the male patrons. It wasn’t like that with us.
But it was something else equally unnerving. It was that Hunter pestered me relentlessly, demanding my every thought. He looked at me like he wanted to physically crack open my head and see what was inside.
“Are you stifled?” he’d demanded suddenly one evening when I joined him at the table for my break.
I sat down, relaxing my tired legs, and let out a long sigh. “No.”
He cocked his head to the side, studying me. “That’s it? No?”
I rolled my eyes. “Is that not a good enough answer, Hunt?”
“Are you stifled?” he asked again, ignoring my words.
“I already answered you. Why do you keep asking?”
He shrugged one shoulder. “I’ve been on a lot of runs, and you’ve been here. I want to take you out.”
I perked up. “Where do you want to go?”
“Anywhere you want.”
I considered that. “Well, I want to do things with you for sure, but I also need to get some stuff.”
“What stuff?”
“Like I need to go to the doctors.”
His face dropped. “What the fuck’s wrong? Are you sick?”
“No, no—”
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I need more birth control.”
Now he paused, surprised. “Right. How soon do you want to go?”
“Sometime this week.”
He frowned. “I got runs until the weekend.”
I waved a hand. “It’s okay then, don’t worry about it.”
He glanced around the room, settling his sights on Jesse. “I’ll get Jesse to take you tomorrow.”
“Won’t he mind?”
“He adores you. He won’t mind.”
I smiled. “Thanks.”
He watched me intently. “Anything else you gotta do?”
My smile faltered as I nodded slowly. “I haven’t seen Kurt and Mom in a while.”
