Unbroken 2 - Page 42

In these stories, nobody mentioned a little girl.

In these stories, these men looked at him in a way he did not like.

And this was how Savage’s ruthless reputation began.

He was currently sitting at a nearby table in the pub, eating his breakfast slowly as he hungrily watched Skye move around in her sexy little skirt. She was even wearing a fucking shirt with the Warlord name on it. That just made him weak—andhard—in all the right places. Fuck, he loved her. Fuck, he wanted to touch her every second of the day. Every time she came around to refill his cup of juice, he ran his hand up her leg and squeezed her ass beneath that ridiculous skirt, completely uncaring who was watching. His possessive touches were visible for the world to see because she washis.

She was Leo’s too, that quiet voice whispered.

Yes, true.

And it hurt.

And it made him want to rage.

And it made him want to collapse from the weight of life’s greatest injustice.

But right now, as he squeezed her ass and watched her face flush, he smiled and found he did not care that she was Leo’s, either. It was a fleeting emotion, he knew. It would go away in the next few heartbeats, hefucking knew. But in that brief moment, he felt so long as she wastheirs, that was all that was beginning to matter.

He had just finished his food when a heavy body fell into the chair across from him. He looked up and into Roy’s hard eyes, saying nothing.

“We need to talk,” Roy said edgily.

Hunter shrugged. “So, talk.”

“You’re impulsive, and in a very dangerous way.” Roy waited for him to respond, but Hunter’s eyes weren’t on him anymore. They were back on Skye as she moved about. Roy sighed. “I can’t have a loose cannon in this club, Hunter. What you did cannot go without consequence—”

“So, punish me then,” Hunter interrupted absently.

Roy frowned; this was not the desired reaction he wanted from Hunter. “If you weren’t my fucking nephew, I’d be kicking you out of this club and out of this town. I’d have banished you for behaving so fucking deplorably.”

“Don’t treat me special just because I’m family,” Hunter retorted. “If you want to kick me out, just fucking do it.”

Roy was fuming now. “Goddammit, Hunter. It was bad enough us having to clean up the mess with that Walker brother you murdered in that garage—”

“He was raping women—”

“He was aWalkerboy, Hunt. They hold a lot of fucking sway in the city, and they help us filter out our cash. I don’t think you realize the heat we are still having to fend off from them because he was last seen here in town.”

Hunter caught Skye’s eye now. Her smile weakened at the sight of Roy’s tense body, glaring at him. Hunter shook his head to assure her it was alright, smiling warmly at her. Her shoulders relaxed before she turned her attention to a customer.

“Are you listening to me?” Roy pressed. “Stop staring at her, Hunt. I’ll fucking kick her out of here faster than a fucking bullet if you don’t look me square in the eye right this fucking second.”

Hunter’s mood cooled instantly. His dark eyes flitted back to Roy’s, and this time his face morphed before Roy’s eyes, turning murderous. “Be fucking careful what you say, Roy, because saying Skye’s name comes at a hefty fucking price if the words following her name aren’t to my fucking liking.”

“Fucking hell, here we go—”

“I’m being serious—”

“Well, fucking ease it, Hunt.”

“Don’t talk about her.”

“I’m pissed the fuck off!”

“You shouldn’t be.”

Roy gritted his teeth as he took a few moments to calm down. “You murdered a man in cold blood, Hunt—”
