The Wife Win - Page 79

I throw my head back in laughter. “Jesus. You can’t say that and expect my dick to be okay with talking.”

Her green eyes light up with mischief, taking my hand in hers. “Don’t worry, he’ll get the attention he needs…but only after we take care of other business. Now, give me a tour.”

I show her around the main floor and out to the patio, purposely avoiding the upstairs bedrooms. A man can only handle a finite amount of temptation before cracking under the pressure.

As we sit down to eat the dinner that’s been prepared—fish tacos with mango salsa and tequila prawns—Harper stares from her plate to me and back again, her eyes narrowing as if trying to figure something out.

“You remembered this?”

She’s talking about our conversation over dinner one night at my favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant where she said this was her favorite Mexican dish.

I shrug. “Sure. Why wouldn’t I?”

She picks up her fork, spearing one of the tangy prawns and lifts it to her mouth. But before she opens it, she tilts her head to the side and pins me with a look.

“I don’t get you, Marek Talbert.” She pops the shrimp in her mouth and lets out the lustiest moan I’ve ever heard come from her throat. And I’ve heard quite a few. But they’ve been a far cry from this sensual sound that goes straight to my cock.

“Why not? What you see is what you get.” I lift my beer glass in the air and take a sip. “I think I’m a pretty simple and straightforward kind of guy. I enjoy my work. I like good food and good drink. And the beautiful woman in front of me.”

This produces a gorgeous pink blush over her already rosy skin. She dabs her lips with the napkin from her lap and places it back before leaning in to prop her elbows on the table. She cups her chin in her palms.

“That’s the thing, really. You’re not simple. You’re very complex. But you’re not so far above the fray that you’re an enigma. You care about your players and go out of your way to help them. Every single one of them that I interviewed, Marek, said the same thing.”

Now it’s my turn to be embarrassed and I want to move past this topic.

“And your point is?” I spoon some more prawns onto my plate and add some salsa. She wasn’t kidding. This is delicious.

Harper shrugs and then gestures toward me. “I don’t know. I guess my point is here you are, this big man in pro sports who could have the ego the size of California, but you don’t. You listened to me about my favorite dish weeks ago and then had it made. You’re one in a million.”

She leans over the table and covers one side of her mouth with her hand. “If you ever repeat this, I’ll say you’re a liar…but you know how to make a girl feel special.”

I stand up and hold my hand out for her to take, nodding to the food on the table. “We can finish this later…right now, I need to show you exactly how special you are…” I swing an arm under her knees and cradle her back, swooping her up in my arms. “In my bedroom.”
