ELOISE

Yesterday was fun at the waterfall pool. All the tension Alistair had before he got there vanished by the time we left. We fucked all over the grotto—in the water, against the rocks—and we couldn’t get enough of each other.

I thought he might be a little freaked out by the hot brunette touching me by the pool, but he reassured me he had a lot of fun.

If I quit my job here, will he still frequent the club? You’re not dating, Elle.

But he invited me to his brother’s wedding?Because he didn’t have a date, and he doesn’t want to go to that shitshow by himself.No. Alistair isn’t like that.

What happens after the wedding? My mind wonders.

I’m going to be busy building a bakery. Am I going to have time for him too? I know he’s a busy guy, but what happens if we both become so busy we don’t have time for each other?

Is this all doomed before it’s even begun?

“What’s going on in that head of yours?” Alistair asks, nuzzling into my neck. “Whatever it is, it’s going to be okay,” he reassures me.

Should I say something about my fears?

Should we talk about what’s going on between us?

The week is almost over, and while we’ve both had fun together, Alistair hasn’t asked me again for my answer about the wedding.Maybe he regrets asking? Before I can broach the subject, Alistair’s phone rings. He groans and rolls over and answers the phone.

“Alistair speaking,” he says, answering the phone without looking.

“Brother, have I caught you at a bad time,” a deep voice booms through his phone. He must have accidentally hit speaker instead of answer when he picked up the phone.

Alistair sits bolt upright, and I can see all that tension I was able to get rid of yesterday is back again. “What do you want?” he asks his brother.

“Apparently, you upset Mum the other day when she phoned you about the wedding. I’m not impressed,” his brother warns him down the phone.

“I didn’t upset Mum. I just didn’t agree with the conversation we were having. Two totally different things,” Alistair sneers at his brother.

“Are we going to have a problem on the wedding day, Ali?” his brother asks.

“I couldn’t give two rats about you and Miranda,” Alistair answers angrily.

“Please, we all know how well Miranda sucks dick. There isn’t anyone else quite like her.” His brother chuckles down the line.

My mouth falls open in surprise at his brother’s words about his fiancée.What a fucking creep.

“I’ve won, Ali. You know that. I know that. The family knows it,” his brother gloats down the line.

“Not sure how marrying the woman that was fucking your brother is considered a win,” Alistair bites back.

“You always did enjoy my sloppy seconds.”

This guy is a creep. I can’t imagine how women fall for him over Ali. He must drug them or something.

“How’s the nightclub game going? Can’t imagine you make great money. Did Dad tell you I was able to get the Patricks to sign with the firm? Nice million-pound commission to me,” his brother gloats down the line. “While you’re off sunning yourself on some tropical island, probably with only your hand for company, I was working hard on securing the deal. I guess that’s why you couldn’t hack working for the family business. Not everyone can be a success.”

This guy is crazy.

“You have no idea how hard it was to land this deal. I worked especially hard on Mrs. Patrick, she was a hard nut to crack, but boy, when I did, it was glorious.”

Ew, what kind of fucking asshole is this guy?
