Bishop - Page 53

“Yes.”She groans.“And he’s never going to be allowed to touch anything again.

“C’mon, let’s head out.”

I help her stand, watching as she bends forward, stretching out the obvious tightness in her back.“I’m ready.”

When we step out, she gasps, seeing my truck parked at the end of the stairs. In the back, I’ve spread blankets, lit candles, and there’s her favorite meal from Harper.“What have you done?”

“Just a little bit of what you deserve.”

I help her onto the tailgate of the truck.“Remember when we used to do this before every game?”She sighs, taking a bite of her sandwich.

“I do, this was a time that was only ours.No one knew about us meeting behind the church and all the stuff we’d do there.”

She giggles.“I’m sure we’re going to hell.”

“I think God would understand,” I argue.

“I dunno.”She rolls her eyes, taking another bite of her sandwich.“We are living in sin, ya know?”

Reaching behind me when she isn’t looking, I grab the ring box, opening it with a flick of my finger.“Are we?”

Her gaze flies down to where I’m holding it.“Bishop?”

“Harley, I had this whole speech prepared, but there’s only one thing that’s important.I love you with my whole life.Doesn’t matter how young we are, I know you’re it for me.Will you marry me?”

“Yes.”She sniffles, throwing her arms around my neck.

“It’s not much.”I make an excuse, although Drew told me I didn’t have to.Slipping it onto her finger is second nature for me.

“Bishop.”She reaches up, putting her finger over my lips.“It’s perfect. You’re perfect.”

“No.”I shake my head.“That’s you.Always is gonna be you.”
