Chapter 14

Bishop

“What’s with these cars you and Caelin are messing with?”Harley asks as I sit in the office with Jagger, telling her what parts we need ordered for some repairs we’re working on.

Jagger’s eyes cut at me, then at her, and back to me.“Well, that’s my cue.Let me know when the two of you are done and I’ll finish putting in my order.”

He runs out like his ass is on fire.“Fucker,” I yell after him.

I turn to Harley and it’s like we’re facing off. It’s a place I never expected to be with her but, looking back, it was stupid of me to think she wouldn’t find out.“Who told you?”

She tilts her head to the side.I take a moment to admire her.Her face has become fuller, her eyes brighter, and there’s this glow to her skin. It’s the one that everyone talks about when women are pregnant.“I mean, you act like I don’t know everything that goes on around here.I’m not going to notice the increase in our power bill?I took a look at the cameras because I thought some crackhead was hooking in during the time we weren’t here.”

Fuck.My.Life.

“I didn’t necessarily mean to keep it from you.”

She holds her hand up to stop me.“If you utter the words you were trying to keep me safe, I’m going to stab you with my scissors.”

“I didn’t want to cause you any unneeded stress.Because of the baby and all.”

“That’s only slightly better, but I’ll accept it.Now tell me what’s going on.If you’re involved, I want to be a part of it.”

It goes against everything in me but, at the same time, I know who she is and what she’ll tolerate.I love and respect her enough to know she’s not a wilting flower. If there’s any woman besides her grandmother who can deal with what’s happening in this club, it’s her.

“Fine,” I sigh.Getting up, I walk over and turn the lock on the door.

“You know people are gonna think we’re fuckin’ in here.”

A smirk tilts the side of my mouth.“Let ‘em think what they want.”

She raises an eyebrow.“You sure you want my Dad to think we’re doing something in here?”

I look at her stomach.“Definitely think he knows we’ve been doing something.”

“You know what I mean,” she huffs.“Don’t think trying to take my mind off what I’m asking you is going to work.Tell me what you’ve been doing with Caelin.”

Sighing, I take a seat across from her.“It started a couple of months ago.The boys at Red Creek…”

“The Renegades?”She interrupts.

“Yeah, in Tennessee.”

“I didn’t realize we were so friendly with that club.”

“Babe.Being friends doesn’t matter when it comes to money.”

“I guess you’re right.”She shifts in her seat.“Please continue.”

“Thank you.So, the boys at Red Creek were feeling a little bit of heat on them and they had a backlog of stolen cars to clean. You, of all people, know the supply chain issues we’re facing right now.We needed parts and they needed to get rid of the hot cars.Over time, it’s moved into Caelin and I painting them and getting rid of the VINS for them to be resold.”

She nods.“So it’s gotten more dangerous.”

“Right, which means they’re paying more money. And we could definitely use the money with the baby coming.”

Her jaw tightens and I’m ready for the dressing down of my life.“I’m not angry.”

“Whatever you do, don’t say you’re disappointed.I’d rather you be pissed.”
