“Preggie pops?He’s still eating those?”Denise shakes her head.
“Still?What the fuck have I missed?”
“You don’t even wanna know,” Denise and Harley say in unison.
They laugh as do I.“Either way, Push Pop, I’m happy for you.This won’t be easy, but if I know anyone who can handle it, it’s you.”
“Thanks Gramps.”
We get off the call and I turn to Denise.“You worried about her?”
“Extremely.It’s not easy, but I don’t think she believes it’ll be easy.It’s just going to be much harder than she thinks it will.”
“You’ll be there to help her,” I point out.“If anyone knows what she’s going to go through, it’s you.”
“I will.I just didn’t want this for either her or Justice.I wanted them to live their lives and then become adults.Not be forced to do it before they were ready.But it looks like life had other plans for her.”
“Nah, she had other plans for herself.”I shake my head.“Harley doesn’t let others push her around.You and I both know that.Even if things are rough for her, she’ll only do what she wants.That’s just who she is.”
“You’ve got a point there.She’s a lot like you.”
Denise laughs.“No, Liam.That girl is all you and I don’t think any of us would want it any other way.Including you.”
She’s right, but I’ll never admit to it.
