“Not gonna lie, I would be too.”
“It’s like Drew understands things happen, but Charity acts like everybody’s mom and I don’t want to disappoint her.”
“I wouldn’t want to disappoint her either,” Caelin agrees.“That’s tough.”
I knew he would understand exactly how I’m feeling.“I also don’t want her to think I’ve ruined Harley’s life.Like, this is going to keep her from doing the things she wanted to do, ya know?The two of us aren’t totally set in our ways like other people.We've never had a huge plan for the future.I feel like others assume we don’t take life seriously but we do.We just don’t have life plans.Know what I mean?”
Caelin nods, beginning to do jumping jacks.“No, I get it.I know my position in the club is firm.There’s not many who know how to do what I do.And, obviously, Justice is doing what she loves.It’s what she’s always dreamed of.But Harley?She’s always been a wildcard.To be honest, I always assumed she’d be the first female member of Heaven Hill.”
“I assumed that too.But since she found out she’s pregnant, she’s not even gotten on the back of a bike.So, now I worry, you know?Like, have I stopped her dreams?That's not what I want at all.”
Caelin counts his reps until he’s done how many he wants.He stops with a jolt, putting his hands on his hips.“Well, you know, the easiest thing to do would be to ask her what she wants.The two of you have to work things out.However, you do realize her dreams can still come true.Just like yours.It just might be in a different way.”
I’ve never met someone more insightful than Caelin and Tyler.They both have a certain way of looking at life.Never letting it get overwhelming to a point there’s no hope.“I get what you’re saying but I think, at this point, it would be a little too much for her.It might make her feel as if I’m trying to dictate her life.I’m going to keep it in my back pocket and ask her when the time is right.”
Mind made up, I go over to the dumbbells and start lifting.
Caelin follows.“You know her better than anyone else.”
“We have a lot to talk about.There are going to be lots of things that neither of us realized we’re going to have to do this early in life, but I’m ready for the challenge.Especially if I have friends like you.”
Caelin gives me a smile.“Dude, you always got me.Us Walker men, the ones who deal with the women?We gotta stick together.”
