Forever Mine - Page 37

“I love you more than you’ll ever know, baby.”

“I do know, Cal. I read your journal.”

“I hoped you would see things differently after you read that.”

“What do you mean?”

“I hoped you would forgive me.”

I sigh. “Cal, I forgave you a long time ago.”

“You don’t know what it means to me to hear you say that. Don’t cry. I’ll be there soon.”

“Okay.” I wipe my cheeks again with the crumpled wet tissue. “I’m going to check on Cairen.”

“All right, see you soon.”

“Bye.”

I splash my puffy cheeks with cold water and pat with a hand towel. Walking into the bedroom, I brush my hand against Cairen’s forehead once more, then lightly feel his cheeks with the back of my hand. I watch his eyebrows move, but he doesn’t wake and continues to snore ever so gently. Hopefully a good rest will do him good, he didn't sleep last night.

Knowing Cal is on his way, I rustle through my makeup bag for my concealer, eyeliner, and lipstick. I need to make myself look presentable.

As I put the mascara away, a car engine comes within earshot. Looking through the bedroom window, his black Audi parks on the side of the road. I check Cairen one more time before tiptoeing downstairs to open the door.

Cal walks straight in, and I close the door. Before I can speak, his lips press against mine, darting his tongue into my mouth in a frenzy of want and need. Pinning me against the door, his hands roam my body, squeezing my breast, then my arse, anything he can fist. My arms wrap around his neck, and I keep him locked in our passionate state for some time. Our tongues slow to a flickering waltz before he pulls away to look into my eyes, cupping my face in his hands. I kiss his palm and his thumb runs along my lips.

“Are you all right?” he asks.

“I am now.”

“Where’s Cairen?”

“In my bed. His bedding is in the washer.”

“You look tired.” His thumb runs under my eye and delicately kisses my nose.

“I haven’t slept.”

He wraps his arms tight around me, pressing my head into the nook of his neck and shoulder. I can’t help but kiss him there, then rub my cheek against the stubble on his jaw that never fails to elicit the fire in me.

“Do you want to get your head down for an hour? I can listen out for your son.”

“No, come through. Do you want a coffee?” He nods and I take his hand, leading him into the kitchen. As I fill the kettle, he wraps his arms around me from behind and nuzzles into my neck, gently sucking and licking the flesh there under my ear.

My heart races as my head spins and the heat between my thighs spreads throughout my body. I turn to him and kiss him again, knowing this will be the last time we’re together. He knows it too. I can see it written in his eyes; dark eyes that burn with possession and hunger. With his hands wrapped around my waist, he pulls me with him to the kitchen table, forcing the wood into the back of my thighs as he unbuttons my shirt.

“When did you last check on your boy?”

“Just before you came.”

“Do you think he’ll stay asleep?”

I nod, knowing what he’s thinking, and I want it too. I need this. Just one more time. His lips steer down my body, navigating over the soft rounds of my breast as he pulls the cups of my bra down, catching my nipple between his teeth, tugging and groaning.

I watch his eyes flicker as his hard tongue grazes and flicks around my stiff peaks before trailing kisses of desire down to my plump stomach. My leggings are yanked down with his rough hands, but his mouth tenderly kisses over the thin pink stretched skin left from pregnancy.

My legs grow weak the farther down he goes, and I wish I had put some sexy underwear on this morning instead of my comfortable big knickers. I screw my eyes shut as he peels away my leggings, thinking I am going to have a Bridget Jones moment right about now, but he doesn’t seem bothered; more interested in what’s underneath and pulls my big plain cotton pants down. They fall to the floor.
