“I wouldn’t want to stay any longer. I’m not signing on to be a permanent fix.”
“I would never want to impose on you that way,” she says with a polite smile. “Thanks, Griffin.”
I stand up. “I should probably get some of my things.”
“Okay.”
“Call 911 if anything is wrong,” I say. “You can never be too careful.”
I leave. Linda is still struggling with her trash, but at least Todd isn’t on the lawn. He’s halfway to her car.
“Hey, could you give me a hand here?” Sweat is pouring down her face and neck. “I know the only reason you didn’t offer is because of Sierra.” Her tone says, Sierra’s such a bitch, but you aren’t like her, are you? You’re a gentleman.
I shoot her a cool glance and even cooler smile. “I didn’t offer because I didn’t want to.”
