Faking It with the Frenemy - Page 136

“It’s marked private.” She shows me the front of the envelope. Sure enough, it has a big stamp that says PRIVATE.

“Okay.” I take it from her, carry it to my office and shut the door. Since I’m annoyed and restless with the fact that I can’t not think about Jo, I rip the envelope open with more force than necessary

, almost tearing the document inside.

My heart almost stops when I read the first paragraph.

Jo wants me to give up the rights to…our baby?

Chapter Sixty-Two

Wyatt

I sneak out of bed early in the morning, leaving Kim sleeping. I tiptoe my way to Vi’s room and knock.

“You can come in,” she whispers.

I crack the door open and poke my head in. She’s sitting up, rubbing her eyes.

“Ready?” I whisper.

“Yeah.” She yawns. “Do you think it’ll come out okay?”

“It’ll come out fabulous. And I promise Kim won’t be up until you’re done.” I made sure she’d be tired last night. That’s the least I can do to help Vi.

“Let me wash my face and brush my teeth and meet you in the kitchen.” I nod and leave her do her thing.

It’s been eleven months since Kim and I got married. Since then, Samantha completely crushed Geneva’s legal maneuvering, Yuna gleefully told us my ex-wife is bankrupt—apparently, it’s Yuna’s motto to follow her enemies’ social media accounts, although I’m not sure when Geneva became Yuna’s enemy—and we moved to a bigger home. Not a mansion like the one Salazar has, but something with more space and a pool. Kim likes to relax by it after work and on weekends, and I like to join her every chance I get. I’m proud and content of the life we’re building together.

Vi comes out of her room, pulling her hair back into a ponytail. She’s barefoot in a tank top and shorts. She doesn’t do all that weird experimenting off YouTube anymore. Kim and she do all that girly stuff together, which is great. Vi’s been blossoming with all the love and attention Kim and I have been pouring on her. And based on what she tells us, she has tons of friends now, and she likes her teachers too.

We head down to the kitchen together. Champ whines, and I let him out into the yard. Princess looks on with a feline sneer, then curls back to into a fur ball. Princess quit bringing bugs to Kim. Or maybe Champ’s been eating them behind our backs. I caught him a few times, and Princess hissed at him, batting at his head. But she’s too small to really hurt him.

Vi takes out two eggs, a couple slices of whole wheat bread and Kim’s favorite strawberry jam, bought at a local farmer’s market. I show her how to do sunny-side up and toast the bread just the way Kim likes it.

“We have to have coffee, too,” Vi says.

“Yup.”

She starts the coffeemaker, and I pull out a tray. Vi sets up the rest, then picks the tray up with care.

“You okay there?”

“I’m good. You just have to open the door.”

I nod and walk up the stairs with her, and then open the door to the master bedroom.

Kim’s still in bed, although from the way she’s shifting under the sheet, she’s awake. Probably just feeling lazy.

I kiss her on the forehead. “Hey, sweetheart. Look what Vi brought you.”

Kim sits up, pushing her hair out of her face. Vi comes over nervously. I know she’s remembering the time she did this for Geneva. My ex-wife hated it and said everything was inedible. Not that I think Kim would do that, but I know it was a trauma. I’m actually still a bit surprised Vi decided to do this for Kim on their first Mother’s Day together.

Vi lays out the tray on the bed for Kim. A smile splits Kim’s face when she sees the breakfast Vi’s prepared.

“Oh, wow. Thank you, Vi! Everything looks so delicious.”

Vi flushes. “Thanks. I mean, you’re welcome.”
