Made in Vengeance - Page 9

I looked terrible, and a bruise was already forming on my upper left cheek. I gently touched it with my fingers, wincing slightly from the tenderness.

I took off the dressing and half turned to look at the wound in the mirror.

Nikolay said it had been three days since I was shot, and the wound didn’t look as bad as I thought it would. At least not at a second glance.

By the way Nikolay had reacted, I was expecting something much worse. Some angry red skin was surrounding it, but it had definitely healed well.

I undressed fully and climbed into the shower.

The wound hurt whenever I moved a certain way, but for now, it was bearable.

I quickly showered, washing my hair and taking care not to touch the wound.

It probably took less than twenty minutes, tops, but by the time I turned off the water, I was exhausted.

Fuck.

I closed my eyes as my vision blurred.

I wondered how mad Nikolay would be if I called out for him.

Before I could debate if I could get out of the shower by myself, the door opened. I thought Nikolay was coming back, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Damien standing there.

His dark eyes took me in.

Definitely the biggest of the three men. The coldest, too. With short dark hair, dark eye, and a small scar that ran vertically on the left side of his face, he looked every bit as intimidating as his reputation made him out to be.

I could see why people referred to him as the Russian psychopath.

But looking at him, it wasn’t coldness in his eyes like I had expected, but a softness I was quickly getting addicted to.

He looked like he’d aged during the three days I was out. His eyes were tired, and he had a beard.

I blinked.

He still looked like my Damien, though.

His dark eyes hardened as he took me in. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing, showering by yourself?”

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. It didn’t seem like he was waiting for an explanation anyhow.

He grabbed the towel hanging off the hook and came up to me, wrapping my shivering body in the towel and picking me up.

“If you get sick, pet, I’m going to be really pissed off at you.”

He placed me on the bed and grabbed the first-aid kit Nikolay had fetched earlier. He quickly dried my wound and dressed it.

“I stank,” I said as a way of explanation.

I might have imagined the slight twitch on his lips. It was hard to tell with the beard. “Still. You should have called for Nikolay.”

He walked to the bathroom and came out moments later with the clothes I brought in with me earlier.

Without saying anything, he pulled the towel off my body and pushed me gently down on the bed.

I let out a small squeak as his dark eyes moved over my naked body.

“Don’t look at me like that, pet. You’re still healing, so we’re not going to do anything.”
