Captured By The Mercenaries - Page 20

“Or what?” I taunted.

“I wouldn’t play that game with him, Little Warrior,” rumbled a deep, sleepy voice from across the room.

“Mind your own business, Arsen,” I snapped. His echoing laughter filled the cabin. “You guys kidnapped me-”

“Saved your life,” Rafe interrupted. He didn’t keep going, so I did.

“Dragged me out here to the middle of nowhere. Kept me here against my will. Lied to me about not speaking English. Dragged me back here after I escaped-”

“Saved your life again, Pet,” he sneered, correcting me.

My eyes narrowed on his face. “I don’t know if it’s considered saving my life when you’re keeping me here and I don’t know why,” I spat at him.

His face darkened and worry buzzed around in my head. I don’t know why I felt so comfortable pushing the boundaries with these men. For all I knew, I’d push them too far and who knew what would happen then. I swallowed hard, trying to regain some moisture in my mouth.

“You’re mine now.”

“Ours,” Arsen called out.

All worry of death was pushed from my brain by his statement. Their statements. “What?” I asked in shock.

“You heard me.”

“Y-you can’t just…keep a person.” I gave him a look of disbelief.

This isn’t happening. I’d much rather be a hostage for ransom.

He cocked his head, a slight tilt to his full lips. “Why not?”

“Why…why not?” My voice rose a little as I fought off hysterical laughter. “It’s against the law, for starters.”

Oh my God he actually doesn’t know why kidnapping is wrong. I’m some sort of possession to these sociopaths.

“Whose law, Pet?” he asked, dipping his head and running his lips over my neck.

I fought back the shiver and tried to jerk away from his mouth. There was nowhere I could escape to. He acted like he was growing bored of the conversation. It was confusing and more than a little arousing, so I fought to ignore him.

“Every law, but we’ll go with American, since I’m a United States Citizen.”

“We aren’t in America. And you’d be surprised what the laws out here are,” he murmured, his tongue licking over my skin.

A gasp caught in my throat as the wet heat set my nerve endings tingling. I tried to focus on our debate. “It doesn’t matter, you can’t just-”

“But I can. No one is here to stop me.” His words were full of danger and threat.

“So, you’re going to do whatever you want with me,” I snapped.

“No.”

God, he was so confusing. “No?”

“You’ll beg me for everything you get.”

He was the most egotistical, insufferable, asshole I’d ever met. “I’ll kill you in your sleep first.”

His head lifted and those silver eyes flashed humorously. “I look forward to it, Pet.” With that he rolled off me, turned me on my side, securing my back to his chest again. “Go back to sleep.”

He was completely demented if he thought I was going to roll over and do whatever he told me to all the time. I had too much pride to just give in to him. I lay in the dark, my breath shuddering out of me in anger. I refused to admit to any other feelings that may be sparking inside of me. His arms were locked around me, holding me in place. Turning my head slightly, I eyed the door.

“If you try to run again, I’ll tie you to me.” His voice already sounded sleepy, as though he were moments away from drifting off. The fact that he could talk about keeping me here, and everything else, so nonchalantly pissed me off to no end. Not to mention his righteous attitude about the whole thing, like I owed him my sovereignty.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much I could do for now. I could fight him, but I wouldn’t win. If, by some miracle, I did, Arsen would be there waiting to take me on afterward.

Huffing out an aggravated breath I resigned myself to the situation. I shut my eyes and tried to ignore the hard body I was pressed against. The heat poured off him in waves and wrapped me in a cocoon of warmth even before he reached down with one arm to tug a blanket over us.

Tomorrow. It was a promise to myself. Tomorrow, I’d figure a way out of this mess.
