My fists clench, but something nigs in the back of my mind, telling me she had no part in it.I study everything about her, trying to detect any hint of deception.
Her midnight stare is unyielding, and conviction squares her shoulders as her chest presses into Easton’s arm.
What if this is nothing more than a ruse to escape and go crawling back to whoever owns her?
A growl tries to escape my throat.
The thought of her belonging to someone else sparks a burning rage inside me, melting some of my armour.

This is about retribution for my parents. My mum.
I don’t like it.
I don’t trust her.
But I don’t have a choice.
I need answers any way I can get them.
“I can’t fucking believe this,” I curse under my breath. “What do you want?”
Easton shoots daggers in my direction like he can’t believe I’d actually give in to Grace’s demands. But he must see the desperation buried beneath my expression because the crease between his brows softens.
“I need a new identity… Passport, ID, ones that can’t be traced.”
I don’t know what I was expecting.
Money?
Drugs?
Her forehead furrows, and I notice a small scar above her left brow, barely noticeable against her pale skin. She looks back up. “And… I want a flight out of the country.” She nods to herself.
A fake passport.
Flights out of the country.
Who is she running from?
Why do you want to know so badly?
“You’re asking for a lot. Those things don’t come cheap.” It wouldn’t even make a dent in my bank account.

She knows it.
