Broken Truths (The Frayed Trilogy 2) - Page 11

“I don’t give a shit what you want, Sebastian. I didn’t have to come talk to you at all. The only reason I’m out here is becauseIhave something to say. Do you understand?”

“We aren’t here for any trouble. We’re only concerned for Grace,” Mason says, allowing me a moment to calm the fuck down.

“I don’t have a problem with youyet,Mr. Taylor, but I suggest you keep yourself out of this conversation before I do.”

Mason stands tense beside me, and whilst he manages to keep his mouth shut, no part of him cowers beneath Lucas’ stare.

After a moment, Lucas brings his gaze back to me. “I don’t recall you answering my question, Sebastian.”

“I understand,” I say through clenched teeth, but it must be good enough.

“I don’t want you working with Alexander Deveigne. He’s become too much fucking trouble. I don’t need you helping him piss me off.”

The sound of his fucking name again, on top of everything else from tonight, is almost enough for me to lose it. If that happens, I don’t know if I’ll be able to pull myself back.

“You don’t have to worry about me working with the bastard. Next time I see him, I’m going to kill him.”

“So you do know? I’m surprised you left him alive,” he says, but confusion fogs my mind.

“I didn’t know he killed my parents when I had his throat crushed in my hand, no,” I say, my voice rough, the final word practically a growl.

Lucas’ brows raise ever so slightly, the only indication I’d cued him in on something he wasn’t aware of yet. A rare oddity in this city. Although, finding out he knew all along would have blown up whatever conversation this is. Of course, I’d fucking come to him after they died. Offered him whatever the fuck he wanted for a name. From his reaction just now, it seems he was telling the truth when he said he didn’t know. So what the fuck is he talking about?

“She showed up here about fifteen minutes ago,” he says, pulling me from my head as every ounce of my attention focuses on him. “You can go collect her.” My fists clench with how he refers to her like she’s nothing more than a parcel I need to pick up. Lucas reaches into his pocket as I step forward, but instead of moving out of the way, he slaps his hand into my chest, and I resist the urge to push him out of the way. “I suspect she came for this.” He presses the item in his hand against my chest, making me aware of what it is. “But Sebastian… don’t ever fucking show up here again and speak to me like that. I don’t owe you anything.”

I nod in response, not completely trusting my words.

“Your friend stays here,” Lucas says, shifting his gaze to Mason. Mason must catch the warning on my face because he clenches his jaw instead of arguing.

With a grunt, I take what he’s giving me and follow him inside the building as the big bastard in the doorway steps aside before shutting the steel door behind us.
