Shattering Desire - Page 9

CHAPTERFOUR

Descending from the high of her third, strong orgasm, the magnitude of what occurred overwhelmed her. “I can’t believe we just did that… I did that. Oh—,” Lanie gasped.

What she couldn’t believe is why she fought so hard to deny herself. Had sex always been as awesome? Gavin did deserve credit. A lot of it. Good Lord did he ever. But it had been years since she had an orgasm. Why had she totally given them up?

Sliding his hands around her waist and behind her back, Gavin pulled her into him. He still smelled good. The crisp, clean scent clung to him. And his touch comforted her. As did his words. “Elaine, I agree, we… it came upon us. It’s not bad” He chuckled. “Damn, it’s the opposite of bad. Though I hoped I could restrain myself until I could seduce you properly.”

“I don’t know about you. I preach to my son to practice safe sex. Oh my God, I’m a hypocrite,” she groaned.

Who had she become? She went from ultra-reserved, basically excruciatingly boring, to an immodest, uninhibited woman having sex in a restaurant parking lot.

His entire body shook with his unrestrained laughter. His bare thighs rubbed against the back of hers. His torso vibrated under her hands. Embarrassed, she buried her face in the thin, fine hairs of his chest.

Running his hands up and down her back and caressing her neck, he soothed her. “Anyone ever told you that you overthink? I agree, we got carried away and should have used a condom. But it’s not the end of the world. If you get pregnant—”

Oh, good Lord. If she got pregnant. Jerking her head up and staring him in the face, she announced, “Gavin, I can’t get pregnant any longer. I’m well into menopause.”

He raised his hands in surrender. “I’m not one to assume. That is obviously your bailiwick.”

She slapped him playfully in the chest. “I don’t have a bailiwick. You really did spend a lot of time with your mother. You like the same things I do. You say things I heard from my parents.Bailiwick,” she mocked.

“I wouldn’t lie to you. My mom and I are close. I’d do anything for her.” His jawline stiffened and his eyes went distant. Something about his statement saddened him. It saddened her.

“Is she okay? Healthy?” she questioned.

“Oh yeah. She’s great.” His fingertips traced the outside curve of her breasts. “I haven’t been home in a while. I didn’t get up there over the holidays.”

He didn’t seem inclined to elaborate. She assumed he worked over the holidays. Either way she chose not to press it. She appreciated it when he didn’t press her. Raising a hand, he scrubbed his fingers through his beard and combed them through his hair. With her straddling him, the motion caused his dick to move and touch her, reminding her of what they just finished. And what was wonderful. And fulfilling. And what she wanted to do again.

As if he read her mind, he placed a hand on her lower spine and guided her backward, arching her chest into his face. He kissed and licked and sucked each nipple until she grinded against him. They had sex until her legs quivered, and she panted and shuddered until nothing else mattered except the two of them.

It might be because she and Gavin were new to one another. You always hear about how in the beginning couples are all pumped up on endorphins. It could be attributed to the rush of having sex in a public parking lot. Whatever the reason, she hoped it continued. She believed until then that her sexual desire disappeared. Forever.

His breathing slowed. And hers echoed his. Rubbing her face against his chest, she savored the heat emanating from his skin. She felt wholly satiated.

The longer she remained in his lap though and her body stabilized, the less stable her mind became. How did she act from there? She probably shouldn’t interpret it to mean more than it likely did to him. They agreed to work together. And she uninvited him to the wedding reception. Nope. Nothing needed to change.

Rocking her upper body upright, she clumsily climbed off his lap to the seat beside him. She glanced around the floorboard for her panties. Not locating them, she shimmied her dress over her hips and declared, “I need to head home. I have a lot of great ideas I’m anxious to get started on.” Ugh, either her mind currently resided in the gutter, but she immediately wondered if he thought she meant sexual ideas. “For Raphael’s. This shouldn’t have happened. Oh, for so many reasons,” she added.

“Ok. I hear you loud and clear. Not my intent to cause you stress. If you want me to get tested for STD’s and provide you the results, I will. I don’t want you to have any negative thoughts about tonight.” He shifted toward her and pulled her panties out from underneath him. “You have my number. Contact me when you’re ready. And this isn’t a blow-off. This is new territory for me, and I don’t want to ruin it before we even stand a chance.”

Whoa. It did sound like a blow-off to her. Suddenly her stomach lurched, and she couldn’t get out of—crap, her car fast enough. He probably had parking lot sex every night after he finished at the bar. Scrambling to reach under his feet for a shoe she apparently lost during their frenzied tryst, Gavin grabbed her around the waist. He halted her fitful endeavor and coerced her into meeting his gaze by grazing her chin with soft strokes of his fingers.

“Why are you behaving like a woman hellbent on taking a walk of shame? A walk you don’t deserve. Elaine, you are amazing. I can’t imagine anyone would think otherwise,” he assured.

Well, they do.“I appreciate it, Gavin. What time do I need to be at Raphael’s tomorrow?” Breaking eye contact and physical contact with him, she retrieved her shoe from the floorboard and exited the vehicle. She hobbled around to the driver’s door wearing one heeled sandal and dangling the other in her hand. Opening the door, she located her purse in the seat and glimpsed Gavin zipping his pants and reaching for the handle.

Closing his door, he stood there. She felt his nearness in every fiber of her being. She chose to busy herself digging in her purse.

“I’ll see you at 4:30 at the bar,” he informed. And he left.

Her drive home had her berating herself more. Not only had she thrown herself at Gavin, but she had sex with him in a parking lot. And she topped off her impulsive, slutty behavior by voicing bits of her inner dialogue best kept private and racing away from him.

But she didn’t really throw herself at him. It was mutual. And it was amazing.

How could she show her face around him again after hightailing it out of there like a mortified teenager caught by her daddy? It sure seemed silly she worried about being too old for him considering her actions and her reactions. As appalling as she found the entire incident, she couldn’t deny how wonderful she felt.

She racked her brain trying to figure out when she last had sex. Not that hers and David’s sex life ever disappointed. They just stopped having it. Four years ago. They never stopped loving one another. At least she didn’t think so. They had an amicable divorce. No bad blood existed between them. They simply became stagnant.
