Master of Kayos - Page 32

Her plan to find Quinn hadn’t included hiding in the dark while other wolves roamed the area.Nikita thought she’d be able to waltz right up to the door and ask for her mother. If this was her mother’s pack, they wouldn’t hurt her, right?

Someone’s coming! The Wolf took over just as a man approached.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?”The man in front of her felt familiar somehow, but she didn’t know this pack.Heck, she didn’t know her mother.

Nikita growled, baring her teeth.Returned snarls encircled her, and the male standing a few feet away just grinned.Well, hell.Nikita shifted back to her skin and put her acting skills to the test.“Oh, thank goodness.I was so scared.I thought for sure you guys were the enemy. You’re with the River Canyon pack, right?Because if you’re not, I apologize for intruding in your territory.”

“Who are you, little girl, and what are you doing out here alone?”

“I’m Nikita, and Quinn is my mom. That’s who I’ve come to see.”

The man’s eyes flashed amber, and the other wolves growled, baring their own sharp teeth.“Quinn, huh? You’re in luck,” he said, a feral grin on his face.It was then Nikita realized something was bad wrong. The male who’d done the talking grabbed her arm, and Nikita squirmed.

“Get off me!”Nikita jerked her arm out of his grasp and turned in a circle, trying to keep an eye on all of them at one time. The man took to his fur once again, and Nikita’s Wolf pushed to be turned loose.A loud squawking came from overhead, capturing not only Nikita’s attention, but the wolves as well.“What the...?”Even in the darkness, Nikita could see a fantastical beast bearing down on them. With the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion, the creature tucked in its wings in and flew faster. As it neared, Nikita feared being eaten by the large beak or torn apart by the sharp talons.Still, she couldn’t move.Within the blink of an eye, the creature shifted into a man and yelled, “Nikita, run!”before turning back into the winged beast just as quickly.

Gryphons weren’t real, yet here was one, getting closer. It spread out its magical wings and took out two of the men.Nikita took advantage of the distraction and ran.Snarls sounded behind her, and she pushed her body faster, but it wasn’t enough.Hands grabbed both her arms, and Nikita was dragged back toward the fighting. She kicked and screamed, but it was no use.She wasn’t strong enough to fight two grown dire wolves.
