“I have the best pack in the world.”Quinn didn’t tell her grandmother it was a pack of two.She didn’t need to know that.“What I don’t understand is why I’m here.According to my mother, Dennis only wants pure bloods in his pack.It’s why he had her killed, because she chose to follow her heart and mate with my father.Since my father is half human, that makes me part human as well.”
Francine sighed.“Our numbers are dwindling.The bloodline is dying out.”
“So he’s, what?Letting the riffraff in to keep the pack going?”
Francine winced at Quinn’s harsh tone, but Quinn didn’t care.The bastard hadn’t cared enough for his own daughter to allow her happiness, but now he was willing to...“He plans to pimp me out?”
Francine lowered her eyes, and Quinn turned, punching the wall.Francine yelped, and the door flew open.
“Time’s up.”Bradley leered at Quinn.“A good Alpha does whatever’s necessary for the well-being of the pack.”As suspected, her uncle had been outside the door listening.“And it’s not pimping if he isn’t getting paid.”
“You can tell your Alpha I’ll kill myself before I allow a single one of you to touch me.I have a mate, and he doesn’t share.”
Bradley pointed to Quinn’s neck.“Yeah?Where’s your mate mark?”
Well, hell.She forgot about that.If she hadn’t been so stubborn upon meeting Kyllian, she might have the bite mark proving she was taken.Then again, she doubted Dennis would care if what Francine said was true.Still, she needed to say something, so pulled up a smirk, placed a hand on her hip, and cocked her head to the side.
“His kind doesn’t leave a mark.But don’t worry.You can ask him all about it when he comes for me, because he is coming.And I cannot wait to see your face when he rains fire down on this pack.”
“What the fuck kind of noise are you making right now?His kind?There is nothing stronger than a dire wolf.”
“You keep telling yourself that.Just make sure you have plenty of clean underwear, because when you do see there’s something stronger?You’re going to shit yourself.”
Francine covered her mouth, eyes wide.Whether it was from Quinn’s crude words or the fact that she was talking back to Bradley, Quinn didn’t know.Didn’t care.She prayed to the goddess she wasn’t lying, and Kyllian did rain hell down on the lot of them.Okay, maybe not all of them, but Dennis and all those who followed his path.What was it Kyllian had asked?If this pack was like a cult?Yes.This situation was similar, and Quinn would take a page out of the Lazlo book, helping Francine and anyone else who wished for a better life.
Bradley’s claws came out, and Quinn was ready to turn her Wolf loose, but Dennis appeared in the doorway.“What the fuck are you doing in here, Francine?Get your ass back to your room.”
Francine bared her neck.“Yes, Alpha.”Quinn’s grandmother rushed out the door, turning sideways as if she didn’t want to touch Dennis.Quinn didn’t blame her.
“Change of plans.Corbin returned.You and Henry failed to mention there’s a group of wolves with Quinn.”
“And he didn’t take care of them?”
Dennis punched Bradley in the stomach.“Watch your tone, pup.While six of you were fighting one bitch, he took on four wolves by himself.I think a change in rank is due, wouldn’t you say?”
Bradley hung his head.“Whatever you think best, Alpha.”
Dennis spit his nasty juice at his son’s feet.“I’ll give you one chance to redeem yourself.Take Quinn to the cliffs.If you think you need backup, grab one of your brothers.Stay there until I send word it’s safe to return.”
“I won’t let you down.”Bradley turned away from his father.“Let’s go.”
Quinn didn’t let her excitement show.Getting away from the pack was better for her.If Kyllian’s Gryphon could locate her, he would only have one wolf to tangle with.Two at most.When she moved to walk past Dennis, he gripped her arm hard enough to bruise.
“Don’t do anything stupid.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” she snarled, glaring at him.His eyes flashed the bright amber of his Wolf, but Quinn wouldn’t cow down to this male.He wasn’t her Alpha.Her Alpha was out there looking for her.
