Dead Girls Never Talk - Page 14

I was doomed from the very second I caught her standing inside the doorway of the party with her little group of friends.

My stomach fell to the cold, damp ground, and my eyes flared with angry heat. I had no right, but I was pretty certain Journey had just declared war with me. I was already on my way to her, ready to shove her back through the bleak, empty hall all the way up to her fucking room to change her outfit.

Absolutely not.

“You have no right, Cade.” Isaiah was in front of me before I could even take a step. “Are you leaving her be? If so, turn the fuck around. She can wear what she wants.”

“Says the guy who broke down fucking doors when he was supposed to be leaving a certain good girl alone.”

Isaiah’s jaw ticked. “If you want her, then go fucking get her. But an hour ago, you said you didn’t.”

I seethed under my breath. “Oh, I fucking want her, Isaiah. I just can’t have her.”

Isaiah’s hands never left my chest, and I was sure he could feel the angry beat of rage thumping on the inside. “You’re not telling me something. I can see right through you. This goes further than the shit with our fathers.”

I grunted. “The shit with our fathers isn’t as clean cut as you’re making it out to be.”

He shook his head as the song changed in the background. People were likely gawking, and I hoped every guy in this room could feel the uptick in my blood pressure and knew not to fuck with her. “There’s something else going on. Keeping secrets won’t get you anywhere. Especially not with her. You should know this by now.”

“Keeping secrets is how I was taught to survive.” I shoved Isaiah’s hands off my chest, stalked over to the far back wall, and leaned my back against it, keeping my eyes on a set of toned legs that sent a wicked dose of desire into my bloodstream.
