An Assassin's Oath - Page 101

“Damien—”

“Shut the fuck up, Haylee,” I growl, not bother to look back at her. “I’m going to go and find my girl. Are you going to stop me?” I stare into Aria’s eyes, and she lets go of the gun in her hand.

“If I find out that you’re lying to me, make no mistake…I will find a way to kill you.” I nod, resisting the urge to smile. Oh yeah, she’s my sister, all right.

“If you can prove that I am lying…I won’t stop you,” I respond, and Aria nods slowly.

“They’re in the Den.” We all follow Aria through the fortress Lorenzi calls home.

“Hey.” I snap out of my musings and look over at Ezra when she crawls over me and drops a chaste kiss to my lips. “You okay? You zoned out again.” I nod and smile up at her.

“You know, Mrs. Wolfe…I don’t think I have ever been better.” I unfasten the cuffs from the latches on the side, wrap my arms around her and roll her onto her back, my large body covering hers. Ezra’s arms loop around my neck and her slender fingers comb through my messy hair.

“I think I like this new Damien.” She admits coyly, her cheeks going rosy when I stare down into her eyes. “As much as I love the brooding beast, the flirty, happy version of you is growing on me.”

“I think he’s rather fond of you too,” I whisper before I seal our lips together and kiss her till she’s a panting mess.

Three Months Later.

“Ezra, you okay, babe?”

I press my ear to the door when I hear her groaning on the other side. “We may have a little problem.” I push the door open and see her sitting on the edge of the bath, chewing on her bottom lip.

“What is it?” I question, walking over and crouching in front of her. I watch Ezra closely when she lifts her hand, revealing a pregnancy test.

“I think you’ve knocked me up.”

I choke on my saliva and cough hysterically. “How?” I croak, and Ezra gives me an incredulous look in return. “I mean, I know how obviously, but weren’t you on the pill?”

Ezra winces and drops her gaze to her fumbling fingers. “I may have missed a day—but I took it as soon as I remembered—only I don’t think it worked?”

“You think?” I rise to my feet and rub the back of my head while I pace back and forth. “How accurate is this test? Could it be wrong?”

Ezra stares down at the test in her hand and does a one-shoulder shrug. “I mean…it could be. It does say it's only ninety-five perfect accurate.”

“Get up. We’re going to the doctors.” I take her by the hand and pull her up to her feet.

“Damien, wait, wait. What if I am pregnant? You said you didn’t want kids? Does that still stand?” I detect the sadness in her tone and draw her against me.

“There was a time I didn’t want a wife or a relationship either, but you changed that, Ezra. I never envisioned kids in my future doing what I do, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about you having my baby. If ever there’s a woman I’d want to bear my children, it would you and you alone.” I declare, brushing her hair away from her face while she looks up at me, her stunning blue eyes gazing piercingly into my own.

“Damien…” Ezra sighs, leaning into my hand when I stroke her jaw lovingly. “I wish I could find the words to explain how crazy I am about you.”

I take her face in my hands and stare into her eyes. “I don’t need words, baby. You took a man with a broken soul and gave him life again, pieced him back together. You’re the cure to all of my scars. You keep saying that I always save you, but the fact is you’re the one that saves me. You pulled me out of the hell I was trapped in.” I affirm, pressing my forehead to hers and closing my eyes. “You’ve given me more than I deserve, Ezra. You’re the drug I need to keep going, and even if I strived for the rest of my life, I will never truly deserve you.”

Ezra wraps her fingers around my wrists and smiles beautifully. “I’ll save you for as long as you need me too, baby.”

“Fuck, I love you,” I whisper and draw her mouth to mine for a long, heart-soaring kiss.

Two years later

“Hey, come back here, you little munchkin.” I pull my shades down when I hear my son's sweeter-than-life giggles while his mother chases him along the beach. “I got you!” I grin, watching them both fall on the sand, laughing beautifully. Not even the bluest of oceans or the most breath-taking of sunsets could beat the sight before me. Almost two years ago, Ezra blessed me once again when she birthed our son, Rian. A dark-haired, blue-eyed boy whose smile lit up even the darkest parts of me. I’ve never fallen in love so fast and so hard in my life as I did when I first held him in my arms.

If someone had told me one day I would find love and contentment, I would have told them to go fuck themselves, but just as James had predicted—Ezra did change me; despite all my qualms, she made me better than I have ever been.

I grin when she catches me watching her and blows me a kiss. My cell phone beeps, alerting me of an email. I open it and see it’s from Dynasty.

Name: Damien Wolfe.
