An Assassin's Oath - Page 95

Damien

“Whoa.” I look at Jax, who was sprawled on my sofa, currently staring at his phone. “Bro, I have got to have this chick.”

I sigh and look back down at my cell. “Jesus, do you think with anything other than your cock?”

“Of course I do...until I see a hot chick, and then the Jaxmaster takes over.” He replies with a smirk. “I felt a vibe with this chick earlier when we were in her apartment, and now I want to know more.”

I shake my head and sigh, “Whatever man.”

“I’d ask you to come and join us for some drinks later, but you’re still moping over Ezra.” I shoot him a withering glare, and he smirks back at me. “What you are. Look at the fucking state of you, bro. You’re a pitiful mess.”

“Fuck you, asshole,” I growl, throwing the sofa cushion at him, which he bats away with a chuckle. My phone rings and I answer it when I see it’s one of the guards I appointed to watch over Ezra.

“What is it?”

“Mr. Wolfe, Ezra has been taken.” I shoot up to my feet promptly.

“What do you mean she’s been taken? By whom?!” I bark down the phone. The intercom buzzes incessantly while I’m on the phone, and I gesture for Jax to answer it.

“We’re not sure, we were in pursuit, but we just lost them. Three men and a young woman.”

“How the fuck could you lose them?!” I bellow and kick the glass table over in a rage. “What the fuck am I paying you for? Huh? How could you let them take her in the first place you fucking useless bastards! Send me your fucking location right now!”

I almost hurl my phone across the room until I remembered I’ll need it. I pace the living room frantically. I knew something like this would happen. I fucking knew it. Jesus fucking Christ, what if they’ve killed her? My entire body goes rigid at the thought of Ezra hurt or dead. I’ll rip them apart with my bare hands, so help me, God, I’ll kill every single fucker that gets in my way if anything happens to her.

“Damien.” I look over at Jax and stop pacing when I see Jordin standing at the door. Dread engulfs my heart when I see the look of horror on her face. I hurry over to the door, and she retreats a little, probably scared out of her wits at the rage in my eyes.

“They took her.” She whispers, her brown eyes swimming in tears. “These men and…and a girl came r-rushing into my a-apartment, and they said….” She shakes her head sobbing.

“Jordin, stop crying and tell me what you know!” I grasp her arms and shake her a little, and she whimpers.

“Her dad made a deal with someone named…Lorenzo or something. The girl said Ezra was to be his new bride in exchange for Hugo’s life to be spared for some debt.” Jordin explains, and I lift my gaze to look at Jax, who was scowling while staring at Jordin. “I can’t believe he would do that to her. Just trade her off like some possession to save his own tail.”

“It doesn’t surprise me one bit. That vile swine would sell his mother if his ass were hanging on the line.” I let go of Jordin when a surge of red-hot rage erupts within me, and I clench and unclench my hands. I’m going to kill him. That son of a bitch, I’m going to siphon the very life out of him, and then I’m going for Lorenzi.

Lorenzi thinks he can marry Ezra? My Ezra? No one touches what’s mine. I will tear him apart limb from limb if he lays a fucking finger on her. If he harms a single strand of hair on her head. Jax noticing the vexed state of me, places a hand on my shoulder. “Damien—” I swipe his hand off me hastily and storm off to the bedside table when I left my gun and pick it up, slide the magazine to check it was loaded, and slap it back in as I walk to the door. “Damien, what’s your plan?” Jax questions watching me gathering my weapons and throwing them into a duffle bag.

“First, I’m going to kill that bastard Hugo like I should have done from the beginning, then I’m going to get Ezra,” I utter grimly, zipping up the duffle and check my phone when I get a text from the guards of the location they lost Ezra.

“Damien, you can’t go in there all guns blazing. You’ll get yourself and Ezra killed. I’m coming with you, and we’ll get Haylee too. You’ll need all the help you can get.”

“No, Jax,” I reply and try to walk to the door, but he jumps in front of me, and I glare at him. “Get the fuck out of my way, Jax.”

“Listen to me. I’m not sending you in there by yourself. Lorenzi is big-time—you can’t take him on on your own. You don’t even know what you’re walking into, bro. He probably has a hoard of guards surrounding his place. We’ll get her, I promise you, but let’s think rationally and come up with a plan first, so we don’t get blindsided and wind-up dead.” I exhale slowly and nod.

“Fine. But Hugo is mine.” Jax nods, and I look at Jordin, who was watching us perplexed. “You lay low, in fact, stay here and don’t talk to anyone. You hear me?” Jordin nods, and her eyes warily scan the apartment. “You’ll be safe here.” Satisfied Jordin understood, Jax and I move to the door.

“Damien?” I stop and look back at Jordin. “Please bring her back safely.” I nod wordlessly, and we leave the apartment to make our way to Hugo’s mansion.

Ten minutes later, we were whizzing through traffic. “Hayles is down. She’s waiting for a location to meet.” I hear Jax say, and my mind barely registers his words. “James is going off on one. He’s absolutely seething that we’re going after Lorenzi. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him this angry.”

“Fuck James! They’ve got Ezra Jax. I could give a flying fuck about James’ temper tantrums right now.” I hiss tersely, and Jax gives me a side-long glance before he exhales, sliding the magazine to his gun to check his ammo.

“Do or die, right, brother?”

“Right,” I reply with a curt nod. As long as I get Ezra out of there in one piece and unharmed, I couldn’t give a shit what happens to me. “Call Jasper and tell him to send everything he has on Hugo and Lorenzi to the feds.”

Jax frowns, “Feds?”
