An Assassin's Oath - Page 32

“Welcome to your new home and your new life, Ezra Wolfe.”

“You have got to be joking?” I sputter, looking around the apartment. It’s styled fashionably with black and white walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a balcony view overlooking the city. Damien looks at me unamused as he pets Coco, who laps and bounces around him, clearly missing her owner. “Please tell me this place is temporary?” Damien stands up and walks toward me, Coco hot on his tail, watching me intently.

“No. This is where we will be staying.” He tells me curtly, gazing down into my upturned face.

“Damien, there’s one bed. There’s no privacy. Your bathroom doesn’t even have a door!” I yell, pointing at the bathroom opposite us. “It’s bad enough I’m forced into a marriage with you, but I refuse to share a damn studio apartment with you!”

“And what makes you think you have a say in the matter, Ezra?” I rake my fingers through my hair in frustration. I want to hurl things at his beautiful head.

“I don’t want to live here with you!” I scream at him, and he grabs my arm and tugs me up against him, glaring at me threateningly.

“I don’t care!” Damien growls back. “You’ll stay where I damn well tell you too.” We stare at each other hotly before he shoves me away from him like I was something that disgusts him before he walks out of the apartment and locks me inside. I run to the door, pull the handle and pound my fist against it hard and growl in annoyance when it doesn’t open.

“Goddamn it!”

I look down at Coco, who was watching me just as intently as her owner usually does. I walk over to the window and gaze out at the beautiful city that I once loved as my home but has now become my prison.
