A Destiny of Carnage (A Violent Agenda) - Page 57

Lorcan stiffens.

Polina laughs. “I can see why you didn’t kill him. He’s handsome, exactly like his real father.”

I stab my blade into the softness of her side, making her hiss. She hasn’t yet started screaming. She will. I haven’t even started yet.

I crouch down in front of her so she has to look at me. “Who is Lorcan’s father?”

She shakes her head slowly back and forth. “Now that would be telling.” She says something suggestive in Italian, making the muscle in Lorcan’s jaw tense.

Bitch.

I take my knife and start removing another piece. When I’m halfway done, and she’s no longer smiling, I try again. “Who is Lorcan’s father?”

She shakes her head. “I will tell you something about your precious Dante though,” she pants, gritting her teeth with a grin. “You should look for him on that list.”

“I don’t need to, I found his birth certificate in Adrien’s office.”

“Did you look closely? Birth certificates can be faked or altered.”

I narrow my eyes at her. “What do you mean.”

She laughs which turns to her coughing. “We’re an agency that specializes in fake identities. Why do you think your father wanted our help? He needed to hide one child in particular.”

I stare at her, slowly taking in what she’s saying. “What child? From who?”

But Polina just smiles and that fucks me off even more.

“You kidnapped Polina?” Dante asks, as soon as Jude is gone.

“Correction—I killed her.”

He looks at me blankly so I start telling him everything she told me, from the black market adoptions to the fake birth certificates. The whole time Dante stands there, face unreadable, blue eyes boring into my soul through the cage door.

“You need to get it together,” he says finally. “You know what happened last time.”

“Have you heard anything that I’ve been saying?”

“Yes, I have, and none of it matters.”

“You’re always telling family is the most important thing in the fucked up world.”

“Because it is, V,” he says, cocking his head at me. “You’re my family. No one else.”

“What about money?”

“I’m extremely rich, what do I care about money.” He glances at the duffel bag at my feet. “Keep that, all of it. You’ve earned it.”

“What do you mean, I’ve earned it.”

“I told you I needed to do those jobs. When you got arrested I went out of my mind. I almost gunned down the police station trying to get you back. Lorcan was the one who told me you had a plan. Doing those jobs was the only thing keeping me from killing every fucker standing in my way. I took those jobs for you, to give you the time you needed.”

When I don’t say anything, he sighs.

“Polina also said that my father didn’t own the agency. You lied to me,” I say.

He shakes his head. “I didn’t say your father owned it. I said Iskar works for your father.”

I frown at him. “Why is everyone speaking in fucking riddles?”
