A Promise of Torment (A Violent Agenda) - Page 36

I glance at my watch. Time to get dressed. I pull on some jeans and a t-shirt and head downstairs. I’m hungry so I head to the kitchen. If I really wanted, I could place an order with one of the staff, but I’m not in the mood to talk to anyone. The kitchen is empty so I make myself some toast. I can’t make much else. There are no knives or cooking utensils. All the catering comes from outside the estate and is delivered fresh every day. They bring their cutlery with them and take it away again. A ridiculous process to keep me from killing someone, given that Dante has smuggled me in so many weapons, knives included.

As I’m eating my toast, Dino walks in rubbing his neck. He looks like he hardly slept, although he was dead to the world when I left him at 6 a.m. this morning.

“I woke up and you weren’t there,” he says, furrowing his brow at me. He makes himself a piece of toast. Lorcan strolls in a few minutes later, keys in one hand, a tray of coffees in the other. He takes his sunglasses off and places the coffees on the table.

“Oat skinny latte and a macchiato,” he says. Then picks one of the cups up and fucks off.

Just like old times.

Dino takes his macchiato and hands me the last cup which must be the oat latte. I take a sip. No sugar but a hint of caramel, just the way I like it.

“He’ll come round once you tell him what you’re really doing here,” Dino says. “He thinks you don’t care.”

“He’s right. I don’t care.” I finish my coffee and drop the paper cup into the trash before leaving the room. As fun as it is talking about Lorcan’s emotions, I have things to do before tonight—namely finding where my father has taken Rebecca.
