A Legacy of Sorrow (A Violent Agenda) - Page 22

On Monday it’s just me and Jude in the back of the town car as the Duke’s driver takes us into Royal Deacon. Jude is in a foul mood. Probably because I kicked him in the balls, and then drove his car better than he ever could, home.

I toyed with not going into school today but I want to listen for gossip on Mr Hans. I’m also wound up from spending the rest of the weekend stuck in a house with Jude. I need to be somewhere else. Do something else. Even if it means spending a car ride with the asshole.

Where the hell is Dino?

I would have asked Jude where Dino went, but he got absolutely wasted when we got back and then invited his groupies over. I had to listen to them having sex all fucking night while I desperately tried to catch up on sleep. And then pick my way through the trash left behind the next morning, just to make a cup of coffee. Without Dino there to clean up, Jude’s a fucking pig.

On top of that, Lorcan is still in St Moritz with his fucking family and I refuse to send him a message asking when he’ll be back like a goddamn stay at home wife.

I’ll have to ask Quinn how to install a phone tracking app on the boys’ phones when I see her again, because it’s ridiculous how often they go missing. If I see her, she hasn’t messaged me back yet after our meeting yesterday.

Dante won’t have killed her.

He needs her to get to me.

The car slows. We’re nearing the college. I glance up from my phone to see Jude staring at me. It doesn’t unnerve me so I stare right back at him, resisting the urge to shift in my seat and pull my uniform down. You’d think I’d be used to wearing it by now. The skirt is way too short and Jude’s eyes are nowhere near my face.

It’s fine. I have nice legs.

After a minute or so his eyes move up and meet mine. I let him see me check him out the same way he did me. Tit for tat.

“Enjoying the view?” he says eventually, talking to fill the silence.

“Not particularly. Just wondering where the hell everyone is?”

“Dino is still out with his brother,” he drawls. “Lorcan messaged this morning to say he’ll be back at the end of the week. He’s at his lawyer’s office sorting out family shit. So it’s just you and me.”

“Great. Don’t change the locks and we’ll get on just fine.”

“Hey, I saved your ass.”

I flick my eyes toward Jude. “No. You followed me and got in the fucking way.”

“Thought you were off to murder another one, that’s why I followed you. Yeah Dino told me about your little rampage. You know, when Lor gets back he’s going to have a problem with it. I don’t. I don’t give a fuck so long as you deal with my problem first.”

I glance at the partition between us and the driver to check the sound proofing is up.

“He can’t hear us,” Jude adds.

“You hired me to do a job, so I’ll do it,” I snap.

“Lor hired you. I asked you to butcher Carl Marques. I couldn’t care less who else you carve up.”

“You don’t agree with the plan?”

He snorts. “The whole plan is a joke. We were getting on fine before you showed up and messed with the system.”

“You were fine, were you, getting raped on a daily basis?”

“What’s done is done. Why change it now? Dino going to London. Lor not getting his trust money. It’s all your fucking fault. Kristian wouldn’t have come back if you hadn’t got Dino to involve his family in all this. Do you have any idea how long he’s been trying to get away?”

It’s the most honest Jude has been with me in the entire month, but all I hear is him blaming me for everything. “I never asked him to involve his family.”

“Oh but you did. How else did you think he was getting rid of those bodies so fast, alone. He’s calling in all the fucking favors for you.”

“Dino’s a big boy. Why don’t you let him fight his own battles?”
