Hook (A Hitman's Bait 2) - Page 70

I pushed open the door, then stopped short. On the bed lay a garment bag and shoe box, with a smaller box next to it. Sully had given me way too much jewelry for me not to know it contained something shining.

What are you doing, Sully? I told you I don’t need all this.

I unzipped the garment bag first and gasped. The wine-red jumpsuit was stunning. The halter top left the back bare from the waist up. Slits at the sides ran from the thighs to the ankles where the material gathered in an embroidered cuff. It was beautiful. I could already imagine the feel of the silk on my skin.

A piece of paper fluttered onto the bed. I picked it up and unfolded it.

Get dressed. I’ll have a car pick you up at seven.

A glance at my phone screen told me I still had an hour and a half left. Enough time to be ready. After carefully placing the jumpsuit back on the bed, I checked the shoebox. The black open-toe stiletto heels with ankle straps were just perfect for the jumpsuit. The shoes were the right size, which wasn’t surprising, given how closely Sully paid attention.

The small box contained a pair of gold stick pavé diamond earrings.

“Sullivan Matthews,” I murmured. “How on earth do I convince Tack you’re not my sugar daddy when you keep spoiling me like this?”

But I wasn’t one to complain. It made him happy to buy me all these things, and although I didn’t need them, I wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. He was generous in every way to me—in bed, with his time, his money, and his love.

It turned out an hour and a half wasn’t that much time to get ready after all. I spent way too long taking a scented bath that almost put me to sleep. My hair didn’t cooperate, and it took me longer than usual to tame the curls to fall the way I wanted. I went lighter on the makeup, focusing on highlighting my eyes.

The fit of the jumpsuit was perfect, and the amount of skin on display was right up my alley. The slits at the sides were daring, running from my waist to my ankle. With each movement, the fabric rustled, revealing the high slits and making it clear I was naked beneath.

I strapped my shoes on and stood before the full-length mirror. Wow, I looked—and felt—like a goddess. I couldn’t wait to know what Sully thought about the outfit he’d bought for me. Had he chosen it himself, or had a salesperson helped him?

Please let it be all him.

My phone rang, and butterflies stirred in my stomach at Sully’s name on the screen.

“Hello,” I greeted breathlessly.

“Hey, baby. Did you get dressed already? Geoff's waiting for you outside.”

“I am. Sully, where are you?”

“You’ll see. You’re meeting me for a private dinner.”

“And you won’t tell me where I’m going?”

“Nope. Why ruin the surprise now when I’ll see you in the next fifteen minutes?”

“All right, then. I’ll try not to be impatient, although I’m so excited.”

“Hurry. I can’t wait to see you. I missed you today.”

He hung up before I could respond. How could I not hurry? I grabbed my gold evening purse and ran to the front door as fast as my high heels allowed. A black sedan was parked in the driveway.

“Ready to go?” Geoff exited the vehicle and opened the car door for me.

“Yes, where are we going?” He closed the door behind me and got back into the car.

“Mr. Matthews said that you would ask.”

I groaned. “Don’t tell me. He told you not to answer.”

“Exactly.”

Geoff wasn’t a talkative man, but that didn’t stop me from chatting his ear off during the ride. He didn’t really respond beyond a few grunts, but that was okay. I just couldn’t keep my excitement in for tonight.

He stopped in front of a restaurant I had read about. How could Sully have arranged this at such short notice? It had to be booked a year in advance, and even then, there was no guarantee you’d get a table. I stepped out, nerves fluttering in my stomach.
