Hook (A Hitman's Bait 2) - Page 57

“I’ll never get tired of you.” He leaned forward and kissed me softly. “You’re my life, Kit.”

Well, when he put it like that, how could I not feel good? He bit my lip, and I opened up to him. His tongue slowly licked inside my mouth and tangled with mine. I moaned and dug my fingers into his shoulders.

“So sweet.” Sully trailed kisses along my jaw and down my neck. His hand wandered down my chest and toward my erection. I jerked at his touch, and he raised his head, desire shimmering in his eyes. My heart thumped hard inside my chest.

“You don’t want to?” His words didn’t hold malice or heat. Just a question for consent, which I’d never truly felt I had until I met him.

“I’m just a bit tired,” I said. “Didn’t sleep well last night.”

He nodded and planted a kiss between my eyebrows. “Why don’t you go take a nap? We have all day together.”

“That sounds good.”

“Want me to carry you?”

“No, I’m fine. Stay here and enjoy the sun. Or maybe go for a swim. I don’t want you watching me while I sleep.”

He chuckled. “All right, I won’t. I’ll check up on you in a few minutes.”

I dropped a quick kiss on his lips. A part of me felt bad for turning him down, but it was better this way. I wasn’t in the right headspace to have sex with him right now.

I walked into the house, drank some water in the kitchen, and climbed the stairs. It hadn’t been a complete lie that I was tired. I dragged my heavy limbs to the bed and crawled under the covers. Just as my head hit the pillow, my phone rang.

Groaning, I rolled over and grabbed it from the side table. I wanted to ignore it, but it could be Tack or maybe one of Nolan’s boys who wanted to get out.

The number belonged to none of them, though. Guilt washed over me. Maybe I should end this with Sully’s mother. I couldn’t keep lying to him just to appease her. Such an awkward position to be in when I wanted her to like me.

“Hello, Beth.” I curled the end of the sheet around my finger. “How are you?”

“My favorite son-in-law!” Her greeting made me smile. She really was a lovely woman. If only I could get Sully to change his mind so we could meet in person.

“Technically, I’m not your son-in-law.”

“Shush. I’m letting the universe know my wish.”

“You’re too kind.”

“Is everything all right? You sound a little sad. Did you have a fight with my stubborn son?”

“No. We—it’s just been a tough couple of days.”

“You’ve had troubles.”

“A bit.”

“Tell me. What happened?”

I closed my eyes and pressed my hand to my forehead. Why did she have to be so easy to talk to? I quickly gave her the censored summary of what had happened at the club.

“Are you all right now?” she asked, her voice full of concern.

“I’m fine. Just resting up at home.”

“And my son’s taking good care of you?”

My phone beeped with an incoming call. I checked the caller ID. Tack. I couldn’t handle speaking to him right now, so I let it go to voicemail. He could leave me a message, and I would get back to him after my nap.

“Well, is he?”
