TWENTY

“Ican’twaitfor you to come home tomorrow.”

I glanced up from buttoning my pants and stared at the screen of my laptop, which rested on the bed. Hundreds of miles away in another city, Kit sat curled up on the couch with Cinnamon on his lap, watching me get dressed. He had a glass of “grape juice,” not wine, in his hand.

“Have something special planned for me?” I asked.

This was different.

In a few hours, I had my next target to kill. Usually, I would run over the scenario of what should happen tonight in my mind, but I’d thought of little but Kit since I arrived in Smoky Vale. I didn’t want to be so far apart when he looked so damn good. His shirt had fallen down his shoulder and showed off his creamy skin. I’d had one full taste of that boy, and it hadn’t been nearly enough.

I needed more.

“Well, I don’t know how special it is, really,” he said.

“Trust me, very special.”

And he was. That special spark I didn’t know was missing from my life.

He smiled almost shyly. “I tried to hook Liam up with someone today. I can’t tell if he was the jerk or Tack, but Tack sure is funny.”

I frowned. “You went out today?”

“Yeah, the mall. Didn’t you get an alert from your credit card company? I bought something expensive from you to me.”

“Kit.”

“Wait, let me show you.”

He put down the cat and disappeared. After a minute, he was back. He brandished his arm before the camera, jiggling the platinum charm bracelet.

“How much did this cost me?” I asked.

“Can you put a price on something special for me?”

“I hope to be well thanked when I get back home.” I turned to the mirror on the back of the closet door and fixed my tie.

“Don’t worry. You will be.”

“Obviously, you’re more experienced than me about this.” Satisfied that the tie wasn’t crooked, I sat on the bed again and worked on my cufflinks. “Tell me what you like in the bedroom.”

“Oh, baby, I don’t think you have enough time for me to get into all that.”

Warmth spread through me. He called me baby. He more than likely meant nothing by it, but I hadn’t heard so much affection in anybody’s voice in a long time.

“You can start. We’ll have time enough later to continue.”

“All right, then. I guess you can say I like all the things—well, most things.” He pulled a face. “I’m not into serious pain kink, although you can spank my ass anytime. I don’t mind being choked either, but only by someone I trust. It’s so hot being held helplessly like that while I’m being fucked.”

“Hmm.”

“Are you sure you want me to continue?”

“Go ahead.”

As long as I wasn’t thinking about him with anyone else, the information wasn’t too hard to digest. I cataloged everything he said, filing it away to pull from my arsenal when we were together.

“Don’t slap my face. I really hate that,” he continued. “I don’t like to be humiliated, called a slut, bitch, and those things. Too many men used it to remind me I was having sex for money when I was still doing that.”
