CHAPTER22

Ayear later, Blanche put the baby to her breast. She glanced down at Martin Jakob Sanders and her heart filled with love. How had her mother ever walked away from her? She would never understand how she left her for a man.

“Is he finished yet?” Jakob asked, looking over her shoulder.

“No, he’s still sucking, his emerald eyes gazing up at me like he knows I’m his mama. And I am, sweet boy. I will protect you with my life if need be,” she whispered to him before she kissed his forehead.

At almost two months old, their son was starting to grow and change and his personality was beginning to shine through.

“I get to hold him next,” Jakob said.

“Hey, it’s my turn,” Martin said. “You held him at lunch.”

She smiled at her husbands. “Why don’t you each hold him for just a few minutes apiece. He’ll need to be changed and then he’ll probably fall asleep.”

The two men glared at one another. Neither one of them liked to change his diaper, but they would.

“Maybe next time, you should have twins, then we’ll each have a baby to hold,” Martin said.

She glared at him thinking she couldn’t imagine two babies inside her. “Why don’t you have the next one.”

The men grinned. “You did such an amazing job. We couldn’t have done it as well as you did.”

“Thank you,” she said, gazing down at their son and then up at her husbands. “I love you so much, and I can’t wait until you can claim me again.”

Their eyes brightened. “Us too. Soon.”

“How about tonight after Little Britches is down. It’s been two months. I think I’m ready.”

The two men turned and smiled at each other. “You take the baby.”

“No, you take the baby, I’m going to get the room set up.”

Now that was different.

“Why don’t one of you take the baby, so that I can get prepared. Once he’s asleep, I’m all yours.”

“Love you, Blanche,” Martin said as he bent down and took the baby from her.

Jakob helped him by making certain that the baby’s head was in the right place.

“I love you too, Blanche,” Jakob said. “I can’t wait to take you tonight.”

“Me either,” Martin said.

“Put the baby down, and then we’ll go upstairs,” Blanche said.

She couldn’t help but think about what had brought her to Treasure Falls. She really should write the man who took the plantation away from her and thank him. Because of her trip to Montana, she had everything she wanted in life. Everything.

Just then Montana bumped her hand. She gazed down at the dog and rubbed him behind the ears. “I can’t wait until you and Little Britches can play together. I know you’ll look out for him.”

Gazing around the house that was now her home, she knew that coming to Montana had been the best decision she’d made.
