A Forever Series Box Set: A Paranormal Reverse Harem-(Book 11-15) - Page 358

Remiel looks at him with a furrowed brow. “Why?” he asks, tapping his index finger on his chin.

“He knows,” Frederick blurts out, as he and Vito come crashing into the library, obviously intent on stopping him from doing “something stupid.”

That just causes Constantine to relax even more. He will show these assholes how composed and reasonable he can be, which in turn will prove to Aefre that his changes are real.

“Knows?” Remiel asks, his frown deepening.

“That your father wants his child,” Vito adds and that perks up Lincoln’s ears. So far, he has been quiet and withdrawn, not unusual, but there is something unnerving about him right now. He is plotting and Constantine determines to keep an even closer eye on him.

“Oh, that,” Remiel says, brushing it off. “I am dealing with it.”

“Actually….” Frederick starts and then trails off as Remiel fixes him with a cold stare. Constantine has to hide his smile. Usually no one can shut that Vampire up except him.

“It is my situation to deal with,” Constantine states. “Tell me where to find him.”

“So you can kill him?” Remiel asks.

“Yes,” Constantine says, holding onto his patience for dear life.

“He has a way, you know, my father. You will go there intent on murder and he will change your mind, like that.” Remiel snaps his fingers under Constantine’s nose. He lets out a low growl to show his annoyance.

“I am sure I can handle it,” he says smugly.

“Hm,” Remiel says, clearly not believing him. “His objective is to get your child. It matters not to him who he uses to do it.”

“What does that mean?” Vito asks in dread.

“Precisely why he needs putting down,” Constantine says at the same time.

“He plans to use Aefre,” Frederick says, getting in between the two. “That is why I am here. To make sure that it doesn’t happen.”

“Aefre?” Constantine asks. He can feel the darkness pulling on him, but he pushes it back. “How?”

“He plans to seduce her into giving over her child to him,” Frederick says. “And he can do it. He has already gotten into her head once, maybe more.”

“Excuse me?” Constantine roars, losing it now as it is just more than he can handle. “When? How? What did he do?” He grabs Frederick by his shirt collar, shaking him in his rage.

“A while ago. I think she was safe in the Fae Kingdoms, but now that she is back….” Frederick doesn’t get to finish his sentence as Constantine tosses him across the room like a rag doll, but he lands on his feet, crouched like a cat.

Damn Vampire.

“What is this?” Aefre demands, slipping into the library with Devon attached to her like a barnacle.

“We are debating the cons of going to kill my father,” Remiel pipes up in that infuriating way of his that makes everything sound as if it doesn’t matter.

“I have learned of his manipulation of you

, Aefre,” Constantine says, cutting his gaze to his wife and leaving no room for doubt about his annoyance at her secret. She stood in this very castle only a day ago and told him there would be no more. Good thing that he didn’t believe her, or he would be hurt by her silence. She looks down, only for a split second at being busted, but then gives him a defiant look.

“I have only learned about this myself recently,” she says.

“It’s true,” Frederick says, moving closer. “She was supposed to remember his visit to her, but she didn’t.”

“And you would know that how?” Constantine barks at him. He wishes that Frederick would get himself away from his wife before he is forced to separate them by hand.

“She told me,” Frederick says.

Aefre hisses at him but Constantine just ignores the stab of jealousy. This has clearly been going on longer than he thought. He has been so distracted by that woman and all of her baggage that he didn’t even realize she was in contact with the one man he strictly forbade her to ever see again. He thought this had been dealt with over five hundred years ago, but clearly, he didn’t put enough effort into persuading her to let her lover go.
