A Forever Series Box Set: A Paranormal Reverse Harem-(Book 11-15) - Page 89

A few minutes later, as we lie in each other’s arms on the mossy ground, I ask him, “Will you stay awhile?” I am hoping that he refuses and makes an excuse up to leave. I do not under any circumstances expect him to take me with him when he goes. He isn’t ready yet. But he is prepped now and that is all I care about.

He pauses, but then he says, “I have to go, Aefre, there is a lot going on that you don’t know about.”

“Then tell me,” I say lightly.

He shakes his head with a sad smile. “Business,” he says shortly.

Humph, I think rudely. I pout at him and he smiles and kisses me.

“Wait,” I say as he sits up. “There is something I need to ask you.”

“What is it?” he asks, looking concerned by my tone.

I bite my lip as I have no idea how to ask him about his father and what he wants with me, but this opportunity is here, and I need to take it. I have had no contact with either Frederick or Laurentis since Frederick came to see me in the swimming pool, but I have been expecting it, like a bomb about to go off. “Do you have much contact with your father?” I ask hesitantly.

I know I have blindsided him, when he blinks rapidly but then frowns. “What is this about, Aefre?” he asks sternly.

“I received a visit from an, err, old acquaintance. He said he worked for your father and that he was very interested in me. Why would Laurentis be interested in me?” I ask. I doubt he will have a satisfactory answer for me, but hey, a girl has to ask.

“I don’t know,” he says slowly. “What else did this acquaintance say?” His tone makes it very clear he is jealous, but you wouldn’t know it from his impassive CK-like face.

“Nothing,” I reply, not prepared to tell him about the rest of our conversation.

“I wouldn’t worry about it,” Remiel says suddenly, not seeming too concerned. “He is only making his presence known. He tends to put his nose where it doesn’t belong.”

“But…” I say.

“I will take care of it,” he says shortly.

“What about his powers? Should I be worried?” I press. I am very worried now that he seems so not worried about it.

“I said do not concern yourself with him,” he snaps at me and I gulp. The last thing I need is him angry with me.

I reach for him and smile. “Okay,” I say softly. “I trust you.”

He beams at me then and I heave a mental sigh of relief.

“I will be back soon,” he says. “I want you to know me,” he adds shyly.

“When?” I ask.

“Soon,” he says and stands up, magickly getting dressed as he does.

I cover up now too, not wanting to be naked in front of him anymore. He helps me to my feet and cups my face. He runs his thumbs under my eyes, and he says, “For the record, my favorite color is green.” He steps back and Astrals out, leaving me very confused. If I didn’t hate him so much for everything that he has done to me, I would love him.

Once he has gone, I turn and walk back to the house. I need to shower now.

I make my way inside, knowing that everything will be in order with the house. Devon thinks I don’t know, but I do, that he brings his little Demon fling here to “spend time” with. I don’t blame him; Xane would throw a shitfit if he knew Devon was screwing his niece. But I know that I am not paying him any attention. I’m not paying any of my men any attention. They are all climbing the walls, but I’m occupied, and sex isn’t really going to accomplish my goal. Although, having said that, sex did just accomplish my goal. Only it was sex with the one man none of them would accept. Fuck’s sake. How do I get myself into these messes? Every time. Every single time. I heave a sigh and push my unfounded jealousy over Devon aside. It hasn’t been the right time for him to ask me what day it is, never mind asking me to marry him again. He needs this, so I will allow it to play out. For now. Plus, Xyla also seems to be helping him with his powers and that can only be a good thing around here.

I step gratefully into a steaming hot shower and I just stand there and let the last hour sink into my bones. Then I shudder and the tears fall down my face. I did what was necessary to gain Remiel’s trust, but it doesn’t make it feel any better. Not to mention, I found out nothing about Laurentis’s interest in me. I sob as I sponge my skin until it is red. I feel dirty to my core and I need to wash away the feeling. I turn off the shower and step out, but it

isn’t enough. I turn on the jets again and then I sink to the floor and let the water fall on me until it runs cold. I shake out my soaking wet hair and crawl out of the shower, flicking the jets off as I go. I grab a towel and then decide that I need to get over this and stand up, get dressed, and go home like nothing ever happened, and then wait for Remiel to return, where I am going to have to do it all over again. I can’t even look at myself in the mirror as I dry off manually, but one thing is clear to me: V.A. hasn’t been this satisfied since we thought that Cole was the One. She is lazily flapping her wings, swooping across my back instead of sulking in her usual position. I get dressed and then jump a mile.

“Hey,” Sebastian’s voice behind me says, making me spin.

“Hi,” I say, surprised. “I didn’t expect to see you so soon.” I tilt my mouth for a kiss, eager not only to kiss him, but also to erase the feel of Remiel’s icy lips from mine.

“I had to see you,” he says and leans against the sink. He is fiddling with a small tin of lip balm almost like he is nervous, opening and closing it in agitation.
