Sweet Obsession - Page 38

“Baby, did I have you sign a prenuptial agreement?” She sat up and looked at me with a frown.

“No, you didn’t.”

“Why do you think that is?”

“I don’t know; you probably would’ve done the same with Rene or anyone else that you’d married.”

“I can guarantee you one hundred and ten percent that that would never have happened. I wouldn’t have trusted anyone else with my life’s blood. What do you think that means?”

She didn’t have an answer, so I carried on. “Do you know the divorce laws in our state?” She shook her head no.

“You get half of everything I own. It’s a no-fault state, baby, which means no matter what, without a prenup in place, you get half of it all. I didn’t make you sign anything to protect myself, so tell me again why you think I’ll send you away.”

She relaxed but not fully. “But you spanked me for the silliest thing. It was a joke.”

“Well, you fucked around and found out. I don’t find disobedience funny.”

“Grinch!”

“Right back at you, babe.”

“Now, we’re going to try this again. Go get dressed in the clothes I picked out for you; they’re hanging behind the door in the closet.” I tapped her hip to get her off me, but I guess now that the fear was gone, she was back to being a pain in the ass. Instead of hopping to it like I’d asked, she turned to straddle me on the chair, her eyes full of mischief.

Dammit, she’s going to be trouble! She made a face when her ass got settled.

“Still sore?” She pouted and nodded.

“That’s what daddies do to bad little girls. Now, if you behave yourself today, later I’ll kiss it and make it better.” She whooped and jumped off my lap to go do as she was told.

The next few days were spent in wedded bliss. I catered to her every need like the spoilt little shit she was, and she lapped it up. It was amazing to see her come out of her shell a little more each day. Once I realized it was reassurance she needed, I went all in.

I was there every step of the way with her. If there was something she wanted to do that I had no interest in, like visiting old palaces or a stop off in Vienna for some asinine reason, I obliged. And at night, when it was just her and I in front of a roaring fire as the snow came down and blanketed everything in white outside our chateau in the Alps, I’d make love to her until we both ached.

MADELINE

Bummer! Our lovely holiday vacation is over, and we’re back home for less than an hour, and I want to go back. It was like living another life for the past week and a half. There was no fear of the doorbell ringing, signaling unwanted guests, no fear of running into Rene or his mother around town. We were free, and best of all, I had Garrick all to myself.

It had taken me this long to come to terms with the fact that he truly did love me and hadn’t just married me to get back at Rene or because I was in love with him; he’d done it because he loved me too, and I’d seen it firsthand on our trip away from home.

I never thought that this could ever happen, that we would ever break down the many barriers between us to come together, or that he’d choose me over everyone else. Emotion rose up in me, and I couldn’t help but wrap my arms around him as he sat at his desk reading over something on his computer.

“What’s that for?” He turned to kiss my cheek.

“Just because.”

“Because what?”

“Because I love you.” It was getting easier to say the words without feeling stupid now because he says them almost as often, if not more.

“Not as much as I love you.”

“Where are you going?” He called out when I started to leave the room.

“Praline ice cream is calling my name.” I held my breath waiting for the recriminations to start. People are always telling me to stay away from my favorite sweet if I want to lose weight, but it’s my one weakness. I’ve given up everything else, well sweets-wise, but not that.

“Enjoy, baby!” He must be wondering why those two little words should put such a big smile on my face. I’ll show him tonight for sure. His eyes followed me from the room glued to my ass in the pink velour suit I’d worn for the flight home. He’d taken one look at my ass in the pants and the deep cleavage that showed in the top, with just a sexy lace bra beneath, and had me out of them in five seconds flat.

We’d ended up missing our flight time and had to reschedule for later. Hypocrite that he is, he’d then told me after we’d showered that there was no way in hell that I was wearing it through the hotel lobby and he wasn’t in the least bit amused when I told him that I thought it was only jeans that were forbidden.
