“I’m not suggesting that there’s anyone out there to get you. That’s all over now. I just don’t want you to struggle by yourself. I don’t know if you’re well enough to be by yourself.”
“I’m fine! They don’t think there’s anything wrong with me at all.”
“I know, but I would rather take care of you. What I want is for you to stay with me.”
“You want me to come back to yours?” She looks shocked by the suggestion.
“Yes, so I can look after you. I want to rub your feet and make you dinner until you feel better.”
“Well, when you put it like that, how can I refuse?” she giggles. “That sounds like a dream to me.”
She laughs, a lovely musical sound that makes me really smile. After meeting Raelyn’s mom and best friend and learning even more about her, I like her even more. She really is a wonderful, incredible person. Perfect for me. I never would have thought it possible, but she’s the one who has taken my walls down.
“So, you’ll come back with me? For real? Don’t tease me here.” I cock an eyebrow at her.
“I’ve said yes.” She rolls her eyes. “Don’t make me change my mind. I’m already considering it…”
I lean down and softly kiss her lips, my heart racing with joy as I do. Things really are progressing with Raelyn and me now. She’s almost moving in with me! We’ve said that we love one another… it’s amazing. I avoided women for a reason, because I didn’t want any of this, but now that I have it, I’m over the moon.
“I’m going to speak to the doctor then, see what time you’re getting out of here. See what I can organize.”
“I don’t want any fuss,” she calls out behind me, but it’s too late, I’m out of the room and really planning things when we escape the hospital. I cannot wait to have her where I can make sure that her days are amazing, after all the shit that she had to deal with. This is the woman that I love, the woman I admire more than anyone else in the world. She needs to be loved, to be happy, to be treated like the queen she is.
“You really did cook for me!” Raelyn smiles widely. “I know you said that you were going to, but I didn’t really think that you would. Is this the sort of treatment that I can expect while I’m here?”
“You can expect it forever if you don’t go…”
She looks at me curiously. “That sounds like you’re asking me to stay forever.”
I hand her a plate of food and she inhales deeply, enjoying the smell. “Maybe I am!”
She grins and pushes a fork full into her mouth. She doesn’t tell me that she’s going to stay forever, but she doesn’t tell me that she’s leaving either. She doesn’t look freaked out by my suggestion.
Instead, we eat in a comfortable silence. It’s funny to think that our silences used to be really awkward. Now it’s like we have such a deep bond it doesn’t matter if we use words or not.
“I am going to have to tell Mom that she was right about you,” I comment idly.
“What do you mean?” Raelyn immediately demands. “What did she say about me?”
“That you’re lovely and also perfect for me. But I wouldn’t hear it at the time.”
She blushes adorably. “I didn’t realize that she liked me so much. I mean, we got on well…”
“She will be over the moon when I tell her about this. The only reason that I haven’t said anything so far is because I don’t want to open that can of worms until I’m ready for it.”
r /> “You think she will become really involved?” Raelyn laughs. “Maybe you should wait a little while longer. That way we can have a little more time to ourselves. I think we need that after everything, don’t you?”
I shiver, getting what she means by that. The cheeky minx. She wants to spark everything up, but I don’t know if that’s the best idea. After all, she’s only just got home after being in the hospital. She might need some more time to recover. And I need to remember that even if she’s looking at me with those sexy as all hell eyes of hers.
“So, what do you want to do today?” I ask her quietly, trying to change the subject. “Now that you’re free.”
“I am tired.” She stretches her arms high in a mock yawn. “We should go to bed.”
“Bed?” I gulp. I won’t be able to resist her there. “Do you want the bed to yourself if you’re tired?”
“Of course I don’t want the bed to myself, you fool. What do you think this is?” She rises from her seat and wraps her hand around my shirt collar to drag me with her. “I want you in the bed with me because it has been forever since I’ve managed to have you to myself. So, will you come on already?”
