Only Ever Yours - Page 23

Almost twenty-four hours on the dot, just as he promised, he sends me a text with an address for her and a current location: Rainy Days. She’s currently there with a few people drinking.

I consider which way to go about this. I could wait until she’s home and show up at her place, or I can head over to Rainy Days since it’s only about a ten-minute drive from my place. The sensible thing to do would be to wait until she’s home… Rainy Days it is.

Thirty minutes later, I walk into the overcrowded and foul-smelling place and have a seat at the bar. I order a scotch on the rocks and glance around in search of Camilla. As if drawn to her, my eyes find her almost instantly. She’s dressed in a flowy navy blue top, the back missing, a pair of short white shorts that show off her creamy thighs, and high heels that look tall and pointy enough to be considered weapons. She’s dancing with a bunch of people, but one guy in particular is close… too close.

I drink my shitty excuse for a scotch and watch, mesmerized by the way Camilla sways her hips and ignores the guy who keeps creeping around her. He whispers something into her ear and she shrugs, slightly cringing. It’s obvious she isn’t feeling this guy, but she’s too polite to say something.

Creeper walks over and orders two Jack and Cokes, throwing a twenty on the bar top when the bartender hands them to him. My eyes stay on him as he then takes them over to the table, and after glancing around, reaches into his pocket and drops something into one of the drinks. Motherfucker. I stand, ready to go over and fuck his drugging ass up, when Camilla sidles up next to him. I was so busy watching him, I didn’t see her join him.

It all happens in slow motion yet so damn fast. I’m pushing my way through the crowd, trying to make it over to her, shouting her name over the music. But it’s too loud, the music is thumping too hard, and I’m too far away. He hands her the spiked drink and she downs the entire thing in one gulp.

Fuck!

When she sees me, her eyes go wide in shock, but I don’t have time to explain. I stalk past her and over to Druggy Creeper and, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, push him against the wall.

“What the fuck did you put in her drink?”

His eyes bug out. “I don’t know—”

“I saw you.” I pull him forward and then slam him against the hard surface. “You have three seconds to tell me what you gave her before I make a single call and ensure you disappear and are never found again.”

I faintly hear several people shouting around me, but I ignore it all, focusing on the guy in front of me. It takes an ungodly amount of restraint not to kill him right here on the spot, but I remind myself that won’t help Camilla—and you never kill anyone with witnesses.

“It’s just a little GHB,” he says, shaking in fear.

“Just a little GHB?” I bark. “It’s not just a little anything when she doesn’t know about it.”

I reach into his pocket and pull out his wallet, grabbing his license and scanning it before I pocket it. “I now have your info, including where you live. And I promise you, one day, when you least expect it, you’ll be paid a visit. Better watch your back, Rusty.” I cock my arm back and punch him straight in his face, making his head snap to the side. He hits the ground, but I don’t stay a second longer.

“We need to go,” I tell Camilla, who’s staring at me in shock and confusion.

“What’s going on? What are you doing here?”

“That asshole drugged your drink, and since you downed it like a shot before I could stop you from drinking it, in a few minutes, it’s going to hit your system hard, making you feel disoriented. Have you ever taken GHB?”

“No,” she gasps, covering her mouth in fear. “I’ve never done drugs. What’s going to happen to me?” Her voice cracks. She’s scared of the unknown, but I won’t let anything happen to her.

“I can’t believe that asshole!” a woman yells, stumbling over her own two feet. She’s clearly drunk, and based on the way she wraps her arms around Camilla, must be her friend.

“Who are you?” I ask the woman.

“I’m Yasmin,” she slurs. “I’m so sorry, Camilla. I never should’ve brought you here. You didn’t want to go and now that piece of shit drugged you.”

“I’m okay,” Camilla assures her since it’s only been about five minutes and the drug hasn’t kicked in yet. I need to get her out of here before it does.
